From Mohamed:

I am Mohamed Hisham, and I am a public atheist in Egypt. The first step to a society that has freedom from religion is to stand up and be heard. I did that, appearing on TV twice, and immediately paid a price. Family, society, and now the state have declared themselves my enemy, with beatings at home, credible threats of death from across Egypt, and constant fear of jail my new reality. I can no longer peacefully express myself in this place. I can’t win here on my own. But with the help of my friend Troy Garnaut (who is running this campaign) and whichever organisations and donators hear this message, we plan on finding me a new home where I can live freely and warn about the dangers of Islam. Watch my short asylum plea, then see my TV appearances and the translated threats below. Help me (with a small donation to this gofundme or a share to raise awareness) get to where Enlightenment values and Human Rights still hold true, and I promise to add my voice to those in my new home seeking to prevent religion taking hold. Help me get to the West, so I can help. So I can live.

My asylum video: https://youtu.be/jJLT_GIbm7o TV appearances: https://youtu.be/J5aseBw4BmM https://youtu.be/jT3NRADh9C0 TV call-in death threats: https://youtu.be/xawZvxACLW0 Translated comment threats left on videos of my TV appearances: https://drive.google.com/open?id=16y78PNJHGfDsGYBZyhJJzI4SJOTwJBaL

** Notes from Troy: Mohamed was referred to me by a source through my online presence promoting atheism. Funds will be dispersed to Mohamed and asylum lawyers we engage at his request for safety and security reasons. On arrival in the West all remaining funds will be transferred to Mohamed’s preferred account. See video authority by Mohamed below**

The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Mohamed is on a plane to Frankfurt and will arrive in a few hours, where he’ll claim asylum and be detained.

What a journey. In the end, none of the orgs or government contacts who convinced him to stay and wait for direct entry to Europe proved to be any help securing Mohamed an exit. He had to take things into his own hands, and his route took him right into the heart of danger with a plane trip to Saudi Arabia.

From there it was on to Jordan (where he needed strong negotiating skills to be let on a plane), South America (to fake a holiday that would allow for a refuel stopover in Europe on the way back to Cairo), and finally Germany, where in a few hours he’ll land!

Mohamed’s careful thinking and calculated risks have paid off, thanks to all of you and your donations. It took us longer than expected, with Egypt denying him exit via VISA, but flight LH485 arriving Frankfurt is the final stop on this wild journey we all started together.

All of you achieved something wonderful with your support. In the past year I’ve spent with Hisham, I’ve come to know the young man in the video well and he is as brave and calm as you’ve seen. And most importantly, he remains as dedicated to speaking truth despite risk as ever. Thanks to all of you, he can soon get on with continuing that mission.

If anyone has legal contacts or other resources they can lend to us, please contact me on tgarnius@icloud.com, or via Facebook. Hisham will also contact everyone who leaves their details directly to personally say his thanks.

Mohamed was a signed-up guest speaker at https://www.secularconference.com/news/ located in London this November. Unfortunately, and even with special ongoing assistance from conference organiser Maryam Namazie herself, his Special Conference VISA was rejected.

We also had help on this VISA application from Dr Elizabeth O’Casey, raising our case with the UN Human Rights Council and giving us access to crucial contacts to maximise our chances of success. It seems though that if the UK won’t even take in Asia Bibi, a persecuted Christian girl at constant risk of death, they won’t take a persecuted gay atheist at constant risk of death.

We have multiple plans, however, and we now move on with our next one: a 3 month Shelter City VISA which will get us some breathing space from the increasing and immediate risks at home. Our application is already submitted for the end November deadline (please disregard the June date in the link). https://eeas.europa.eu/delegations/thailand/45807/shelter-city-netherlands-–-new-call-applications-deadline-11-june-2018_en

Failing that, we have more options. Just know we haven’t rested, and we couldn’t have done anything without your help. Will post updates as it’s safe to do so. I hope you can appreciate we can’t tip our hand with certain details on our plans.

Mohamed and Troy.

Hey everyone,

Wanted to let you all know that everything is going to plan, but I hope you can understand at this point it’s the riskiest point and we can’t divulge details of where we’re at. Just know that all the right organisations and support is now in place, and that your help has gone to where it’s supposed to.

Watch this space, and search Mohamed’s name periodically. Soon you’ll be the first to see Mohamed’s own thank-you video from his new home. A home each of you took him to.
