Poetic Justice

Poetic Change is a Detroit-based non-profit that seeks to create youth  designed and youth owned creative writing, arts and social justice infused curriculum to empower young people in engagement of community organizing, leadership development and creative expression. Our vision is to make a world where all youth are reconciled to self, family, community and the world so that they may thrive, create and bring their voices to acualization. If you partner with us, you are creating a better future for young people and for Detroit, because our city's future is their future. Because poverty is a trauma an involves negative aspects like violence, displacement and lack of nutrition; young people can often result to apathy. However, using the power of writing, Poetic Justice seeks to turn trauma into triumph by hiring teaching artists to start creative writing clubs in public high schools. Our teaching artists act as mentors and facilitators while the youth run their clubs. Teaching artists also train teachers and school administrators on how to practice the teqniques that Poetic Justice teach and believe in.  As students create their poems, stories and ultimately books they learn about leadership anc community activism and begin to grow a sense of ownership.Join us as we create a secure, bright future for our children and our city.
