Help Me Reach My Goal

Donation protected
I'm looking for help. Times right now are really hard. However I don't want to just ask for money - I want to earn anything that you are willing to give.

The writing goal I've set is 20,000 words in the month of October. I would like folks like you to pledge money so that, if I reach my goal, then I get the pledged amount. If I fail, then I do not get the pledged funds.

Each week I'll post my word count here. Yes, it means that this process is running on the honor system - if you can't trust that I will honestly say I didn't reach my goal, and thus not receive the money, then I don't know what to tell you.

How this is going to work

There are two methods here. The first is most advisable - you leave a comment, saying how much you'll pay if I reach my goal. You can also email me - go down to the bottom and beside "Have a question? Contact the organizer of the campaign now" - you can email me.

The second is harrier. If you donate, the way GoFundMe work sis that I immediately get the money. This means that I have to keep it and not take it, and if I fail to reach the goal, I have to return it. That is highly dependent on the honor system, and I suspect few people would be comfortable with that. So this is why I recommend the previous option.

However, it also means that you need to check in at the end of October to see if I reach my goal, so you can pay the money you pledged.

How much should you donate?

Whatever you feel like chipping in. I have 500 up there as a goal only because GoFundMe requires a goal.

What am I writing?

Right now I am about 10,000 words into a novel, and I would like to continue that. Along with that I am working on an ebook project, so some of the words will go towards that.

Why am I doing this in the first place?

I came right out of Graduate school and could not find a job. That's been over a year now. I've moved back home with my parents, to a place with no jobs. After two months of no bites, I recently got an interview; they would not cover my travel expenses, and so I spent quite a bit going there. I did not get the position. I'm hurting financially, I have student loans up to my eyeballs, and I do not have any prospects in the foreseeable future.

What do you get for donating?

This isn't like kickstarter, where you get benefits out of the deal. Really this is me asking for charity. I just feel bad asking for money straight up; I want to at least be productive and constructive, so I want to put effort into earning it. The way I look at it is like sponsoring someone for a charity run - you pay for every mile they run. In this case, it's just a word count.

I mean, if you asked I could show you the first few chapters of the novel I'm working on, but that's all I've got.

Why aren't I doing NaNoWriMo?

Well because I want to actually reach my goal. 20,000 is a lot more achievable than 50K. Also if I did NaNoWriMo, I would just be one of many, and I don't think anyone would sponsor me because other people are doing it.
