American Hockey League Coverage
As some of you may know, I'm Tony Androckitis - Lehigh Valley Phantoms beat writer for The Home News.
The Home News is a weekly newspaper and unfortunately they appear to be opting out of paying me for any hockey coverage this upcoming season. The games that I travel to are on my own time and my own money, and honestly I won't be able to continue to make all of these trips due to financial constraints.
All donations will be used to help cover the travel costs I endure while on the road this season so I can continue to bring live road coverage of the American Hockey League (namely the Lehigh Valley Phantoms) and continue my dream of working towards getting into the sports media world on a full-time (& full-time paying) basis.
I spent four years and countless money in college to earn my journalism degree. Since graduating in 2011, I have worked my tail off - starting my own blog to cover hockey games locally before slowly gaining traction as a respected and now credentialed sports reporter in the AHL, the top development league below the NHL.
I'd really appreciate the help to continue providing coverage of the American Hockey League and inch one step closer to my ultimate dream of making it in the highly competitive sports media world on a full-time basis.
Please share this as much as possible to help spread the word. Sharing this to hockey fans is just as important as donating to the cause.
Many thanks in advance. I have no problem admitting I wouldn't have made it this far without the kindness and generosity of others!
I have provided unparalleled coverage of the Phantoms this season and would love to continue to do so.
All donations received will help offset the costs associated with travel to places like Bridgeport, Conn, Hershey, PA, Springfield, MA, Hartford, CT and other cities the Phantoms play in just the month of February,
I was recently informed that my page was not accepting donations all of last week. That error has been fixed, so please continue to spread the word that my page is still accepting donations.
Thanks again to all!
Thanks again to those who have so generously donated to this cause, and I hope we can continue to work towards the goal I set so I can continue to provide the BEST possible coverage of the team.
Let's keep this going!
Jay, I covered the AHL Penguins' daily beat for three years before shifting gears to cover the Lehigh Valley Phantoms beat upon the team's arrival to Allentown (where The Home News' print readership is - the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania). The plan this year, as mentioned on my website as well as on social media is to expand my coverage to cover the entire American Hockey League starting with the 2016-17 season.
Are you still affiliated with the Penguins?
