Coleman Family Funeral Expenses

The Coleman family needs help paying for funeral expenses related to a death abroad. Mr. Coleman tragically passed away in the Bahamas coming home from church.

Our vacation in the Bahamas took a turn for the worse early Saturday morning (4/14). Our nanny Rennett and her husband Darryl were staying with us to look after our baby while we attended a wedding. Darryl was driving home from a church service when the driver of his car had a seizure on the bridge to Paradise Island. The car went off a cliff and fell 10 feet onto concrete, instantly bursting into flames. The driver was killed immediately, and Darryl tragically passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.

Darryl was a pastor and loved immensely by his community. This is freak accident in a foreign country and we are trying to navigate the system for getting his body home to the states, as well as arranging accomodations for the family who is here.

We are seeking any donations for this wonderful family who will miss their father, grandfather, husband, uncle, friend, and beloved pastor tremendously. Any donation, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated. The funds will be used to get his body back to the United States, which can cost up to $3,000 (we will know more specifics on Monday morning once we meet with the US Consulate). Additional funds will be used for expenses related to staying in the Bahamas longer than planned (hotels, food, taxis, etc.), and the funeral.

Please donate what you can. We truly appreciate it.

An update as of Wednesday, 4/18.

Rennett and Trinece are back in the United States. They arrived safely late Tuesday night.

The money raised so far will go towards the following expenses incurred in the Bahamas.

It cost about $3,000 at the Bahamian funeral home. It cost an additional $1,000 to pay for the flight to bring Darryl home.

As of the time writing this, we are $95 away from our original goal of $5,000. THAT IS HUGE! I wish I could give every one of you a hug through the computer screen to let you know how much it means to get this amount donated so quickly.

However, since that money is all pretty much spent already, reaching the goal of $15,000 will be such a giant help for the Coleman family.

For those following, I hope this update is helpful. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has donated. Truly from the bottom of our hearts we are so filled with joy to see the love from everyone.

We increased the funding goal from $5,000 to $15,000 because we will need more funds for the funeral. I am not sure of the specifics yet, but after learning about funeral costs in Miami from others who have lost loved ones, the goal of $5,000 was too little.

Every penny of these donations will go to the Coleman family so they can 1. Get Darryl back to the United States in a timely manner and 2. Prepare for his funeral, which is sure to have an enormous turnout.

Any amount is appreciated, big or small. THANK YOU!

Here's an update on what's going on, as of 4/15.

We learned that Darryl was the only one who passed away in the accident. The driver, who was thought to be dead, was revived in the hospital.

It turns out that Darryl was the only one who did not make it because he literally saved the lives of everyone else and prevented the accident from doing much more damage.

Darryl attempted to steer the car to safety while also praying. Because he was halfway between the backseat and front seat, his body was not in the position to sustain the impact from such a terrible accident. He truly died a hero and gave his life to save the others in the car.
