Friends, Family, and Community members, we are reaching out to help support a special family.  For those of you who know the Kennedys, you know this past year Tom has fought valiantly to battle and beat cancer.  There have been times of struggle and times of triumph.  Through it all, Tom's wife, Christine, and two beautiful daughters Mia and Molly-Catherine have been by his side every step of the way.  Unfortunately, tests this week revealed that Tom must continue his treatments as this battle is not over.  Tom is a fighter and is ready to continue his battle.  We as a community can help in this fight by donating any funds to help during this time.  All funds will go directly to the Kennedys and will help with the costs that can add up quickly while going through treatments.  There will be missed days of work, prescription expenses, copayments, meals, etc....  The burden of cancer is great enough. So many people have asked how they can help.  #1 is to pray, pray, pray! #2 if you are able to donate to the family, any amount would be appreciated and can be done anonymously if you prefer.  #3 stay upbeat and positive around the family and ESPECIALLY the kids.  Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers!

Hi! It's been almost a year since we last updated everyone on the Kennedy Family via this Go Fund Me campaign. We would like to extend the goal we originally set for this campaign to continue supporting this sweet family in the many ways that can help them on this journey. Please help by sharing this page. I have been talking with Christine and she sent me the following update to share with everyone:

We want to take a moment to thank everyone for the generous donations and for all the prayers and love! We have been so overwhelmed by the support we have gotten and it has helped us to keep positive, to live in the now, and to also spread that love to others in similar situations!
Here is an update on all of us!

We have been blessed with Tom having great scans the past 2x they have done them!
The brain tumors are still too small to be seen on scans, no spreading to organs and the Mets in his bones are staying the same. This is good news, although they are not shrinking ... they are not growing!
As for the brain the Drs know the Mets are there (met aren’t curable) but the fact that they aren’t growing is great! Once they start to re grow the Drs here in Wilmington and the Specialist in Chapel Hill have some clinical trials they think he could get into (there is no giving up!!)

Tom will never go into remission, Tom will always be in treatment and until we need to change that treatment it will continue to be chemotherapy every 3 weeks as well as a daily chemo pill! We know that all of these treatments and future treatments are buying him time together with us!

With the amazing donations we have received
We have used some to plan trips with the girls so we can make memories and that has been amazing. Every laugh, photo and story are things we will have forever!
We use it to pay for medication and treatments that the insurance company doesn’t cover or only cover partially!
We have been fortunate with our insurance, but we knew there would be overflow!
It also covers wages! As Tom has almost used up his sick time he has put in for family medical leave where he can call out as needed without pay BUT his job will not be in danger!
And Tom likes to keep some aside for the girls if possible for the time when he is no longer with us!

We have both seen friends get diagnosed and pass away from this horrible disease and those who have been cured! Cancer isn’t new, it isn’t something you can necessarily predict, and it doesn’t discriminate! We continue to ask for prayers and thank you all for everything.

Hello Friends and Family! I'm blown away by what we have achieved in a month! We met the initial goal of $20k, but we don't have to stop there. The Kennedy's needs will extend beyond the $20k I am sure. Feel free to continue supporting this sweet family with your prayers and/or donations! We are all rooting for Tom. Christine posted an update on 9/27/17 and I wanted to share it with you all, so here it is:

Such an encouraging appointment!
First she and our current oncologist are supporters of each other and really hold one another in high regard.

We met with the specialist and her team and they were very optimistic about Tom's therapies. They were prepared with ideas already!! Currently she is adding only one more chemo drug to his every 3 week rotation. They are going to biopsy the tumors in his pelvis to triple check the type specific it is, and having his tumor (from the mastectomy surgery) sent to them in Chapel Hill to be studied and help them plan more options as he needs them and to see what clinical trials will work best on his exact cancer.
The plan is to scan every 3 months - change NOTHING (only add the one drug) until the cancer changes and then move on to other "tools"
She said that she likes to have multiple tools in the toolbox so that as needed they can use them and still have more on deck.

She encouraged him to go to DUKE ( next Wednesday we go) and get their opinion on possible other trials but so they can have more brains working on this!

We really liked her and she was wonderfully encouraging!

We return in December to review next scans and see where we go from here

Thank you for all the prayers! Each day is a gift!!

Update #2 (9/11/17). Thank you all for continuing to support this sweet family! Here is the latest update from the Kennedy Family today:

Today's appointment gave us the news that it hasn't spread to his organs which is a huge relief BUT we found out that it has spread to his bones - they found 6 definite "tumors" in his spine, pelvis, and ribs!
The prognosis doesn't change - he is stage 4 and yes that terminal but our amazing team is still planning to get a Tommy some years with us so we are praying and fighting -
He will continue the current IV chemo with a another new drug added every 3 weeks indefinitely - (originally he was scheduled to stop this inJanuary but that's no longer an option)
He will also start an oral daily chemo pill to take indefinitely!
They are happy that we are seeing the specialist at Chapel hill and hope that they will have more to add to his treatment plan including clinical trials!
She said for Tom to rest, let his body heal and his brain to heal - when he finished the radiation of the brain we wait 4-6 weeks for the next brain scan and pray that it stays stable or shrinks! That's what we are praying for!

To everyone praying, donating, helping and supporting us we are so thankful! We are planning to take Tom to the Dr he needs, get the medication he needs and make memories with the kids along the way! Thank you ❤️

Thanks for all of the generous donations and prayers for the Kennedy family. They very much appreciate it and are thankful. Christine wanted me to post the following update to keep you all in the loop on Tom's progress. Here is her message:

Tom Kennedy update:
We went to see his oncologist (whom we trust so much) to get her thoughts.
Good news: there is no brain swelling, she said he has more than 6 months with us and she is saying she will get him years, she won't say how many but years is optimistic and we will take it!
She is planning more scans and tests to make sure this is all he is dealing with and to get the best plan for treatment!
Yes these are tumors but they aren't "brain cancer" it is breast cancer cells that traveled to the brain (apparently very different) the largest is the size of a fingerprint and so prayers for SHRINK SHRINK SHRINK !

Tom's plan is to continue this 3 week total brain radiation - get the new brain scans in 6 to 8 weeks and then plan to get a second opinion either at Duke, Sloane, or John Hopkins and then LIVE!
Thank you for the continued support ! Every day is a blessing
