I used art and drawing to get through my degrees, 2 of them, in my mid-thirties, because I was mad. Ive stayed relatively mad, in that I'm off to New Zealand! Middle Earth! To do MORE study, under the one person who can help me realize my dream of making drawing and art as important in teaching and learning as I think it should be.
It all started from my kid being dyslexic and trying manage ways of learning for him I started using drawing and mapping out concepts at home. His teacher put him standing looking at the toilet for the afternoon 'because that was where he would end up, drawing instead of writing' I got mad, I stayed mad. I graduated top of my class in Psychology mad, I did a Masters in Neuroscience to understand the mind better...still mad, and now I want to do a PhD in Psychology examining Drawing & Memory to make Art as valid a means of learning as any other.
Unfortunately I only got a B+ average in my Masters, apparently spending 3 hours a day commuting can affect your study habits! So I don't get a scholarship and I have to pay my way...that's okay, I'm still mad & will get there! I've sold everything I had, furniture, computer, art, and Ive gotten some cash together which will get me and the boy there, with the clothes on our backs but we need a little more. Just to get a place to rent over there until I can find some part time work and send my son to school.

Getting from Christchurch to Dunedin and books/school uniform etc.
