Hello family and Friends ,
Please be patient with this post as we are writing to you with a pleading heart. If you are a Cain- Rice-Faircloth-McDuffie-Owens-Edge-Smith to name just a few, or a descendant of any member of LOUMC then you are very familiar with Live Oak United Methodist Church, established in 1892, in Northern Bladen County. This is where the backbone of ours and many other family's faith was started and still stands today. My grandparent's, Alpine & Bessie Cain as well as many other families were raised and did raise their children in this church and gave their lives to the well-being of this church. Some of us either regularly still attend today or many look forward to coming back to Live Oak anytime they can visit, to celebrate the Saints who have gone on before us!
Well, this is where I start to plead for that beautiful little Country Church. Unfortunately for anyone who has not heard about our plight, Hurricane Matthew has affected our church in more ways than one. Not only has travel to church been affected for our members but now,,, our church stands empty! Unfortunately moisture from Hurricane Matthew caused a buildup of mildew and now mold to collect all over the interior of our Church and Fellowship Hall . It is now very harmful for anyone to enter the doors of our church, especially our young children and our older congregation members so, FOR NOW, this building stands empty and silent...
After several estimates, a mold remediation program is in the works however the cost for this mold remediation and cleaning process is well beyond the means of this small country Church. The minimum bid thus far is $21,000.00 and it could be higher! We are reaching out to other options for assistance as well, but in the meantime we are not sitting idle as we hope for help.
So,,,PLEASE HELP US SAVE OUR CHURCH!
