Brendan James McCurdy passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2015. He was born on October 12, 1998 in Englewood, Colorado to Trisha (nee Karstetter) and Michael McCurdy. Brendan is survived by his parents Trisha (Karstetter) Grose, Michael McCurdy and Scott Grose; his sister Haley Ruth McCurdy, his step-sister Tessa Grose, his step-brother Cameron Grose; his aunts and uncles Amber & Ryan Nicks (Lily, Brody & Harper & soon to be new baby), Michelle & Branson Edwards (Rosie & Jake), Dean and Anna Grose (Jacob & Ashlee), Holli and John Van De Wege (Ethan, Caden & Grace), Kristin & Stephen Roche (Hannah, Adam, Sarah, & William), Todd & Kelly Grose (Chance, Shane & Linley, Debbie Grose (Mark); his grandparents Jack R. and Joanne McCurdy, James P. and Sherri L. Karstetter, and Alvin Grose and his great-grandparents Harold and Yvonne Murphy.

Brendan's pets were Milo the McCaw, Moses the Old English Sheepdog, Murphy the Morkey, Lola the Doberman, Silvie the cat, and Mittens and Kittens the barn cats. He also loved Haley's horses, Frenchy, Little Buck, Nick. Brendan was a lover of all animals – big and small.

Brendan spent hours every week helping Haley with her horses. He was so proud of his "cowgirl". He could not believe her strength and courage with those 1200lb animals. They would challenge one another all the time with sports, strength, grades – they made one another strive for better every day.

Brendan had another family too – the Schnase Family. Jeff and Tiffany Schnase and their boys Austin and Nicholas Jones. Their family meant everything to him. They were his rock, his mentors, and his best friends.

Brendan had a gift for loving people. He would spend hours laughing at Tosh.O and Will Farrell movies. He also loved watching the haunting and scary movies with his mom – the best was the Conjuring (they must have watched it 100 times!). He learned hockey from his dad Mike and how to build from his dad Scott. From his mom Trisha he learned to be a bleeding heart liberal that wanted to save the world. And he taught his baby sister Haley the meaning of true love.

In 2005 Brendan became a wonderful brother to Cameron and Tessa Grose. He loved them as much as he loved his little Haley. Cameron and Brendan were always into mischief – running wild in the neighborhood looking for snakes, crawdads, and bugs. They collected frogs from all around the neighborhood. The kids all had "sleepovers" with each other in our home theater. They were best of friends. The four kids were devoted to one another and loved without limits.

Since October 28, 2014, Brendan had dedicated his life to sobriety and love. He wanted to save all of the addicts that did not have the love and support he had from his family. He was a great friend and counselor to so many people, young and old. He strived to make the world a better place. He welcomed all people into his parents home whether they needed a place to stay, a warm set of clothing, or just some love and advice.

He wanted to play hockey for the Juniors and then the NHL – then he was going to be a Realtor and go into practice with his mom at Chateaux Realty. He wanted to be her business partner.

Brendan's goal was to be the best son, brother and friend. He wanted to play hockey in Canada for the Juniors. Brendan will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

When Brendan was two years old Mike & Trisha took him to the Old Foothills Ice Arena. With great excitement and anticipation due to his age, they packed his fat little feet into a pair of ice skates. Next to come was pushing him out on the ice for the first time in his life, much like throwing a young child into a pool. He was up and then down in a split second. As Mike walked away not taking his eyes off of Brendan, Trisha was panicking – she was convinced the whole experience was going to be a disaster and that Brendan would never put on another pair of skates again. But that was far from the truth, Brendan refused to stay down he refused to give up. When two hours had past cold and frustrated he was ice born, skating in small circles around the blue line. This tiny moment in life was the deciding factor in his life. He became a person with courage, determination, and a team spirit. He was in love with hockey, he never turned back. Trisha wanted Brendan to play baseball (it is her favorite sport) and he did it for her for many years. But by middle school Brendan quit baseball to focus on his true love – with was being a hockey player always looking for the "smash and the "did you see I wrecked that kid".

Off the ice Brendan was always known as a gentle giant. He gave away all of the pieces of his heart until there was just nothing left for him. His soul ached for anyone and everyone in pain. He gave and gave. He will always be remembered for his "joker" smile and silly laugh. He loved everyone he met – the best of the best and the worst of the worst. He accepted everyone for who they were and knowing him made us all better people.

Brendan will be missed every single day.

"He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good."
