Juan was shot last night while coming to the aide of his mother during a robbery attempt at his family's restaurant, El Compadre, on E Kings Hwy in Shreveport. This precious family has endured much over the last year and could use your prayers. I am setting up this fund to help with Juan's medical expenses. Gemma Zuniga is the beneficiary of this campaign, and is the sister of Juan Zuniga who is responsible for managing the funds. Please find it in your heart to donate even if it's just a small amount. If you can't donate please share this page with your friends and family so that they might be able to help. We need more good, honest and hard working families like this in Shreveport. God bless you all!

Update from Juan's family:

"Update on Juan #11:

After getting off of ECMO, Juan had a bit of a turbulent rest of the week, getting better and getting worse at the same time. He received a tracheotomy over the weekend, giving his oxygen levels a boost. His breathing, on the other hand, was frantic as he felt out of breath and unaccustomed to breathing with just one lung. After another episode of that last afternoon, the doctors decided to connect him to an oscillator to help his lung fully inflate. He is to remain sedated so that his lung can rest and hopefully recover. As a reminder, visitors are still not welcome.

Prospects are not great but we remain hopeful that he will pull through. Thank you, as always, to all the people who continue to pray and think about Juan and the family. Much love to all."

Update on Juan #9:

"Today has been a big day for Juan! The doctors were considering a tracheotomy to help him breathe but decided it was no longer necessary because he is now inflating his lung on his own! His x-ray went from showing a black mass in his chest to showing an inflated lung! It seems as if all he needed was a little help with clearing all the gunk that had gathered in his lung from the doctors because he is not needing as much help from the ECMO machine as before.

Juan will remain sedated for the rest of the night but will be awake tomorrow. With that being said, please don't try to come up and visit just yet; only close family members are allowed to be back with him.

Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, and continuous support! We are so grateful for everyone who has reached out to our family! Much love!"

Update on Juan #7:
In the words of his doctors, no news are good news! He had a very low-stress day compared to the past couple of days and has been able to get some good rest. His lung is recovering slowly, but the doctors are pleased and not trying to rush any recovery at all. Overall, it was a good day.
Although he is doing better, we would like to give you all a gentle reminder and ask that you please do not try to come up to visit him just yet. There will be plenty of time to do so later on.
We are all thankful for everyone and for all of your support; we have shared many of your messages with Juan and he has loved hearing from you all! Much love.

Update from Juan's family:
"Update on Juan #6:

The doctors are absolutely amazed with the speed with which Juan is recovering. In the words of his pulmonologist, he has never seen anyone recover that fast in his 20 years of practice; anyone else would not be alive at this point. He is no longer connected to a lot of the machines, only the bypass machine, and he is starting to speak to us little by little.

We have told him that all of Shreveport is rooting for him and he is thankful for everyone and your support. God is good and is listening to our prayers.

Again, thank you for your continuous support. Much love to all."
