Reconvening the Watergate Committee

We are the Senate Watergate staff whose only surviving former Senator is Lowell Weicker. Over the past four decades we have organized reunions around the anniversary of the Watergate break-in that have served as media focal points for re-examining and re-interpreting the far-reaching effects of the Watergate break-in on our democracy. We approach this event from the point of view the lawyers and investigators who were staff for the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities (Watergate Committee).

This June 17, 2017, we will once again convene, this time at the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C. for the 45th anniversary of the break-in. It is important to understand that, as the Watergate staff, we acted as employees of the Senate who investigated in a non-partisan way the 1972 presidential campaign activities of the Committee to Re-Elect The President (CREEP). Our charter developed from the work of journalists, but our investigative work is what explicitly led to the Nixon resignation.
We believe fair, non-partisan congressional investigations are a timely topic of great urgency, and look forward to June 17th as day of panels and interviews that will illuminate the importance of non-partisan congressional oversight. We plan to display never-before seen photographs and other materials, and collect oral histories.
We are looking for donations to support this event and fund the development of the www.watergate.org web site. Please give what you can.
