Help the Norths
This is the second time the Norths have lost everything in a house fire. Their first house, a historic property in Toledo's Old West End, was destroyed by a fire in 2011. After rebuilding their lives, thanks to the support of the community he serves and loves, they are once again faced with tragedy.
Steve has been relentless in his efforts to end the cycle of poverty and provide life-saving medical help for Toledo's poor and unhoused. His organization, LifeLine, has a mobile medical unit that, in Steve's words, has "conducted nearly 200 mobile clinics, serving more than 1000 people living in poverty - the unhoused, migrants, refugees, and more." He also hosts monthly dinners at his home, and feeds everyone there free of charge.
It's our turn to help the helper. The Norths need literally everything. A donation of any amount will make a difference. When starting over, everything counts.
100% of your donation will go directly to Steve and his family. For more information on Steve's work in the community, visit lifelinetoledo.com. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Marcy, a good friend of Steve's posted this: Our good friends lost their house in a fire today. This is the second time that this has happened to them in Toledo. Unbelievable. I would like to collect donations for the family of Steve North. If you would like to help please send a check to Steve North in care of me: Wendy Nathan 2114 Audubon Place, Toledo, Ohio 43606
I agree with Marcy. The small amount GoFundMe collects (7.9 per cent) is minimal to fund their business and make cash available to Steve immediately. Steve can get to it now, minus that 7.9 percent, when he needs it now , diring this trying time, and not be at the mercy of banks with limited hours and check cashing fees. Thank you Marcy for your worthy insite!
If you do send a check to me, please make sure you make the check out to them, and I will make sure that they get it! Thank you all so much for your kindness, and generosity.
If anyone would like to donate, you can send checks to my house. 430 Vine St Fremont, OH 43420 This is my family.
I work with Lynn, we would rather give donations right to the family. This is a great way for people who aren't in the area to help out, but I'll be collecting and giving donations directly to Lynn and Steve. Thanks for the comment Amanda! (btw, I confirmed gofundme keeps a portion of the money collected, 11% actually)
GoFundMe takes 5%. If you'd like to donate directly, I believe someone on Facebook said they were accepting checks, but I'm not sure who this was. I would get in touch with Ken Leslie from 1Matters to donate directly.
I've heard that gofundme takes a portion of donations, is this true? I'd rather donations go directly to the family "fee-free."
