Desperately Need Used Car

Hi, my name is Jamie and I find myself in a position where I need to ask for help. I have very recently made my way out of a dysfunctional living arrangement into my own apartment. Unfortunately, I still have another major problem to deal with. I am in urgent need of a dependable used car to get me back and forth to work. Mine is still running for the moment, but it is unsafe due to brake issues and now it randomly stalls out while driving. It also has a serious oil leak and the gas usage has increased by about 20% in the past few weeks. I’ve also recently been told the transmission will need replacing soon. It will cost way more to fix it than it is worth.

I have a good job, but I am in fear of losing it if the car dies before I can replace it. I have looked into public transportation, but because I work in a largely industrial area there are no buses or trains within walking distance. I cannot afford to Uber or Lyft to and from work every day and there is no one I can carpool with.

I am currently unable to get a loan for a used car due to the situation I was living in. I am normally the person my friends come to for help and to fix things. Unfortunately, I have been a very good friend's "fixer" for the past 5 1/2 years. I was roommates with my best friend. During a large part of those 5 1/2 years, I financially supported him all or in part due to his problem with alcohol. I realize I made the choice to become roommates with him, but I was unaware of the drinking problem at that time. By the time it became evident, I had to cover his share of the rent and utilities in order to keep a roof over my own head. There were several periods when he was unemployed and as a result I have no savings of any kind to buy a car or pay for a down payment. In fact, I am in the process of paying off an extremely high interest personal loan I had to take out in October just to cover living expenses.

Thankfully with the help of some good friends, I found a place I could afford on my own and moved on February 1st. I hope to have my loan paid off in the next 3-4 months, but my car will not last until then. I am not looking to buy a new or fancy car. I just need something reliable and fuel efficient to get back and forth to work. I feel I can find a car like that for $2500-3000. I am working very hard to turn my life around and really need to keep my job. This campaign was not started to recoup all the money I lost covering for my friend, I'm just trying to raise enough to buy a dependable used car. Again, any and all help is appreciated and I thank you for your time.
