Adam Bunger was hit on his bike this morning by an uninsured driver in a Ford F-150 truck. He has broken his hip and is having extensive reconstructive surgery. He has at least 3 months of physical therapy ahead of him and will be out of work for at least 4 weeks. Unfortunately he does not currently have health insurance. The driver, who should be responsible, did not have car insurance. Although the driver was cited for the accident, it will be challenging to get reimbursed because he was uninsured. Any help is appreciated.

The local paper did a story on Adam. The pictures tell the story almost as well as the words.

So, here's an interview Adam did with Bike Karma for a podcast. Check out his first hand account of the accident here: http://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-mpi6y-6e0056

On the healing front, Adam is still non weight baring... but hopefully by his next appointment he can start putting some weight on his leg and (hopefully) lose the crutches.
I know he is anxious to get back on (both) his feet. Still not cleared for work yet, and still has a long road of PT in front of him, and his medical bills (so far) are hovering right under the 70k mark...So, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Adam is home doing well. He is still not able to put any weight on his leg, but he is handling his crutches like a champ! The initial estimate for his ambulance ride, ER trauma visit, surgery, hospital stay, surgeon fee, hardware and medication is looking like it will be around $50,000. Some of it can be negotiated down because he is a 'self pay', but nevertheless it's still going to be pricey.

Thank you to everyone who helped reach his primary goal of 5k... your generosity will keep him fed, keep a roof over his head and get his regular bills paid while he's out of work recuperating. And for that we are so very thankful.

I'm going to raise the goal to see if we can help him cover some of his hospital expenses. It's going to be a long painful road and worrying about hospital bills just makes it worse.

Thanks again to everyone who has sent well wishes, love, happy thoughts, donations and casseroles. We couldn't have made it through this tragedy without you.

From Adam: Family, friends, & strangers; I just wanted to take a minute to express my deep gratitude for your outpouring of generosity over the last several days, which have been without question a few of the most trying I've yet to experience. I won't attempt to annunciate what getting hit by a car is like, and I'm at an equal loss for words in regards to the support I've gotten from you all. I feel saying thank you somehow falls short but I think that's the best way I know. So from the bottom of my heart... thank you.
