Bennie's Emergency Vet Fund
As many of you know, Bennie is battling a systemic infection of some sort, the symptoms of which include dangerously low body temperature, high white blood cell count, low blood pressure and more. She is currently in the ICU at the VCA Animal Specialty and Emergency Center in Wappingers Falls, NY. Benz is receiving excellent care, but emergency veterinary care is not cheap, and Brandy's bills are mounting.
Currently, the vet bill is hovering around $4000. It's my intention to raise$5000 since the bills will continue to mount because, although she is thankfully making improvements, she is not yet well enough to return home.
If you have been following Bennie's story from the beginning, you know what a special and tough little girl she is. Weighing in at 1.5 pounds when we found her, lying in a pool of blood on the road, we barely got her to the emergency vet here in Raleigh in time. After spending a weekend with them, she was stable enough to come to our house so we could foster her. The head injury she sustained as a wee kitten stunted her growth, and at almost 2 years old, she weighs in at a whopping 4.5 pounds.
Although she is tiny, she is fierce. She is opinionated (I love treats. I hate cuddles), and has won the hearts of people all over the world through instagram and posts on facebook. As Benz transitioned to New York, many have continued to follow her story, and many more people have become fans. She is a funny, grumpy, precious little girl, and she needs our help. So do her mom and dad.
It can be very hard to ask for help when we need it, so I am making this plea on behalf of Brandy, Art and Our Wee Benz.
Please give what you can to help defray the high cost of Bennie's vet stay, and if you cannot give monetarily, please share this page and wee Bennie's story with your circle of followers.
The need is immediate, and we are all hoping and praying Bennie can come home in the next day or two. Anything you can give is sincerely appreciated, and 100% of the money will go straight to Brandy and Art to pay for the expert care Bennie is receiving at VCA.
Brandy took her to the cardiologist a week or so ago, and she does have some heart issues. The good news with that is that they are just going to monitor her right now, so there's no current need for medical intervention. And with her special kidney diet, she *should* be good to go.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared Bennie's story. It's amazing to me that she has pulled through, but I never doubted that she is a scrappy little thing. She's back to her grumpy self, not wanting to be held or cuddled! =)
We haven't reached our fundraising goal, but almost $1500 is pretty amazing! If you haven't donated, any amount will help--poor Bennie's vet bill is huge!
Thank you so much!
"Her temp was 99.5 and her heart rate was nice and strong. They did blood work which I'll hear about tomorrow. The vet said she looked good and sounded healthier. But little Bennie boo was growling up a storm when getting her blood work done and exam. I think she might be coming back!...The plan so far is this - Feb 9th cardiologist appointment and then another followup with blood work in a few weeks (basically a weekish after she is done with her meds)!"
It's pretty much a miracle that she survived and continues to improve! Hooray for Bennie and for all of you guys who've been generous enough to donate and to share her story! We're currently at $1450, which is simply fantastic! If today's update made you smile, consider donating a bit in celebration. Every donation helps as does every share.
Thank you, thank you on behalf of Brandy and Benz!
Donations currently stand at $1420 and will do so much to help with Bennie's vet care! I know Brandy cannot even find the words to express how thankful she is for all of your generosity!
Bennie is eating and drinking and getting somewhat perkier--all great news! She has a follow-up appointment with her vet tomorrow, and as soon as I hear how she does, I'll let you guys know! She even--and this is huge--groomed herself in a spot of sunshine! Seriously--she rarely grooms, and take it from me, it's always wonderful to see her do "regular cat activities!"
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Sunday, and thank you all again. If you have not yet donated--and any amount is truly so much appreciated--please consider doing so, and please share Bennie's story!
Oh, I almost forgot! Bennie has a new instagram page! Yay! She's @benniethetinykitty on instagram, so please go follow to get updates every day!
Most importantly, Bennie is back home with Brandy and Art!! They were able to take her home around 11pm last night, and Bennie slept on Artie in his recliner. He was trapped all night!
Bennie has been up and down some, eating and drinking and using her litter box, but she's doing a lot of resting. Brandy has the heat cranked up in the house and is keeping her toasty!
Benz has been maintaining a body temperature of 98.4, which is a bit low for a cat but possibly normal for Bennie. She'll have several follow-up visits with Brandy's "regular" vet, and Brandy will be picking up her specially compounded Bennie meds later this morning.
For now, all seems well with our Benz! Please help celebrate her homecoming with a small donation if you can, and please continue to share her fundraising page. Bennie is home, but the bills will keep mounting, so please let's continue to help out our friend Brandy!
With much love and gratititude,
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Bennie may be able to come home this evening--maybe--but she'll need follow-up care from the home vet for at least a couple of weeks. I will keep everyone posted, and thank you again for your donations and for sharing!! ♥
