Kristine's Cancer Journey

Donation protected
Due to the overwhelming outreach from family and friends to offer their support we're starting this fund for Kristine (Bopper) Klink Schutte who was recently diagnosed with choroidal melanoma cancer.  Kristine is the daughter of Mark and Tammi Klink and the widowed mother of her two children, Sienna (8), and Ashton (4).  Her family has truly been "through hell and back".  In the last 3 years both of her parents have battled rare forms of cancer.  In 2012 she unexpectedly lost her husband and then in May of this year her sister suddenly past away.  And now Kristine has recently found out she has to battle a rare form of cancer herself.

About 17 weeks ago Kristine started having vision problems.  She was noticing spots, blackouts and blurriness in her vision.  Due to her mom's recent battle with eye cancer and her maternal grandmother’s rare fatal brain cancer history she immediately sought medical attention.  Over the course of several months she saw almost every kind of brain or eye doctor in our area and endured countless hours of testing to try to diagnose the issue.  During this process, she was told it could be MS, Lyme Disease, or a brain tumor.  Unfortunately the results were that she has a very rare tumor that has spread from her eye and is now wrapped wrapped around her optic nerve.  It may be the first of its kind the doctors at Froedtert Hospital have ever seen. Due to the rarity, Froedtert's team of doctors decided it would be in her best interest to travel to Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia where she would be seen by some of the top eye professionals in the world.  On Sunday she and her mother traveled to Philadelphia not knowing how long they would have to be there or what would happen.  After 8 hours of testing and appointments on Monday the doctors decided that the best treatment option for her would be a full eye removal surgery which is scheduled for Thursday, October 29.  She will have to return to Philadelphia in 6 weeks for a follow-up and surgery to receive her prosthetic eye.  Every 6 months for the next 10 years she will need tests done to check for any sign of spreading to her lungs, liver, spine, brain and other eye which is the most common areas this type of cancer tends to spread to.

Through all of the obstacles life has thrown Kristine’s way she would still give the shirt off her back to anyone.  She’s one of the kindest, most caring people anyone will ever meet!  Now is the time to show her our love and appreciation and do as she would do for us.   Although she would never allude to it, we know the enormous burden her travel and medical expenses will put on her and her family.  Please join her friends and family in raising money to support Kristine during these difficult times.   And as you have been doing, please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you to everyone for all of your love and support!!!
