Adapting to a new life

Donation protected
Thank you all so much for stopping by this GoFundMe page! This page has been set up to help my mom, Judi Terrell Linden, pay her surgical co-pays, including the cost of a prosthetic leg, and prepare for the expenses of adaptive devices.

Here’s a little backstory:

On March 10th mom went into the emergency room with what she thought was a minor infection in a wound on her leg. In less than 24 hours, mom found herself in the ICU and being transferred up to the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic. She was diagnosed with Group A strep, also known as necrotizing fasciitis, and her body was septic. Her doctor told us the only way we were going to save her life was to amputate her leg from mid-thigh. As devastating as this was, it was a no-brainer, because it saved my mom.

For a few hours, I was heartbroken as I prepared to lose my mom that night.

In the time since March, mom has made an incredible recovery!

She spent 2.5 weeks at Edwin Shaw for rehabilitation and moved from there into a condo. She is, for the moment, in a wheelchair. However, we are hoping that will change.

Mom is most affectionately known as GiGi by her twin granddaughters, and she would love nothing more than to be able to chase after them at a park again, walking on her own. Mom has simple goals of taking walks with her grandkids (and daughter!), gardening, and even driving again! She is an avid volunteer and wants to get back to giving back, climb the stairs of her own home, and reach things on high shelves!

We are ever so grateful for everyone’s love, support, phone calls, cards and flowers during this incredibly challenging time. Mom wouldn’t be where she is today without the constant prayers and support. Thank you all!

Though mom has insurance, the financial co-pays and uninsured expenses are too much her right now, but it is modest compared to the value and quality it will bring back to her life!

Please consider a contribution to help my mom.  You will be helping her off-set the following expenses

Surgical co-pay
Co-pay on the prosthetic (which typically lasts 5 years)
Socket replacement (typically needed within 1-2 years for new amputees)
Adaptive driving classes
Adaptations for current vehicle
Adaptations to her condo (such as no-threshold shower with a seat and grab bars)
