Polo's Medical Fund
Polo underwent a 5 hour dental surgery today to remove bullet fragments and restructure her mouth. She is currently under an IV drip and is looking to make a hopeful recovery.
100% of the funds will be used to cover Veterinary and medical care.
Thank you to the great staff at VRCC - Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital and Apex Dog and Cat Dentistry, both in Englewood, for taking good care of Polo.
We are grateful for your donations to cover these unexpected and unfortunate expenses.
For those of you that don’t know Polo, she is a very in your face, excited, happy dog. For those of you that do know Polo, we can all agree she’s a spaz. She’s been crazy for the past 12 years and has showed no signs of changing or slowing down. We joke that puppies can’t keep up with her energy and that she’d probably live forever.
And yet as we sit with her tonight, she seems sad for the first time we can recall – as if she now knows how cruel the world can be. We teared up today as Polo backed away from us for the first time ever as we walked toward her (as if she were scared). But, we’re hopeful it’s just the medications, pain and trauma. And we’re certain that with all the love and attention she’s receiving, within a week or two, she will be her old crazy self.
Little does she know, she’s on easy street for the rest of her life. We won’t have the heart to tell her no and as soon as she can eat whole food, we’ll be sharing every meal with her.
On a personal note, we want to thank each and every person who reached out and helped our family during this horrific event. We were in a very dark place at the discovery of Polo’s shooting. Not only did we feel completely violated, scared and appalled, but we really began to question humanity in general.
Knowing that Polo fought to keep us safe and fought all night for her life, there was no other choice than to fight for her now, no matter the costs. We knew the financial burden this would cause, but saving Polo and getting our family back is more important than money.
Thank you Danette for starting the gofundme page! The donations started pouring in immediately and we are so, so grateful for the financial assistance.
But more importantly than the money, we immediately began to feel the tremendous love and support with each persons’ story, comment and prayer.
Every few minutes there was someone new. Some family, some friends, some people we don’t know and some anonymous. I can’t even begin to describe the change that began inside of us. We weren’t just moved, or touched as they say - we were truly changed.
Each one of you have lifted our hearts and have allowed us to see the good in the world again. You have all helped turn a horrible situation, which can leave a person jaded and cynical, into an incredible opportunity for growth and even happiness.
At the end of the day we have all of you to thank for restoring a family’s faith in humanity. And we have Polo to thank for teaching us resilience and for bringing an entire community together.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love, which has carried us through.
Polo is undergoing another surgery today. The bullet nicked a major artery and was lodged next to another major artery. It is a miracle she didn't bleed out. Polo is a fighter and hero! More of an update to come later on how she's doing.
Here's a precious video of Polo playing. The other dog Ellie, in the background, fortunately was unharmed during the incident.
We all can't say THANK YOU enough!! You are wonderful people and have made such a big difference and given hope during this time. Hold your babies and fur babies close.
"I just called to say I love you..." Coloradans! I've been following this fundraiser since I heard the horrible news and along with my very small donation, I see love wins again over evil. I don't know this family, but on behalf of dog lovers everywhere - thank you donors!
Thank you for your articulate and heartfelt update! I am so happy for you, the children, and of course, Polo, that you are once again a united family. If Polo continues to have any difficulty adjusting, feel free to contact me. Brillo, Bailey, and Jessie say hello to Polo and send doggy best wishes for a speedy recovery--physically and emotionally!
Just wondering how this brave girl is doing? The outpouring of love and all the support does reinstate ones faith in humanity. Polo has many, many who love her, despite never being in her presence.
