Robin Meredith-Kramer Medical Fund

For anyone who has met my mother, Robin ​Meredith-​Kramer, you already know how loving, driven and extremely compassionate she is. When Mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer earlier this year, we were shocked. She is only 61 years old and has never really been sick.

I know personally I could not fathom the idea of a woman as great as she is being faced with such a difficult, uncertain road ahead of her. Some people hear the words “diagnosed with cancer” and ultimately think the worst is in store. However, we gathered our strengths and thought only about getting through this together. Our family’s not the kind to quit easily.

Both my parents are very proud people who would never ask anything from anybody. Sometimes I think that’s because they spend so much time trying to help other people, they don’t have time left to spend fretting about their own situation.
 My father, for example, used to spen​d​ every ​T​uesday for years making multiple meals for different families—families who were going through the type of hard times we are going through now.  And these weren’t just “meals”—they were multiple-course dinners (!) hand delivered by him, complete with neatly printed menus in every box. One look in my parents’ fridge in those days would resemble the food prep storage at a catering service. I think they even bought a larger fridge to accommodate the extra traffic.

Chemotherapy was not what any of us expected. Even if you go in head strong and prepared for the outcome, it still has the power to knock you on your ass. After my Mom went through the initial rounds of chemo coupled with radiation therapy, we hoped this would all get easier. Maybe this problem would disappear and our lives would go back to normal. Instead, months later, after Mom was feeling better again and well on her way to healing, we learned that while the original tumor had been eradicated, the cancer had in fact become more advanced and there were traces of it elsewhere. This news was quite a blow…but we will not give up. We are going to fight this aggressively until it is gone. 

My mom is fiercely passionate about whatever it is she puts her mind to and I see how much it is hurting her now to not be able to physically do that everyday anymore. My mother loves playing piano almost more than anything; to describe it as her livelihood would be an understatement. She has spent her life dedicated to teaching people of all ages to tap into their creativity and make music. Mom and Dad have been in a musical group since the early 80's called "Meredith Carlton Kramer & Janz" where their original jazz music has pleased audiences over the years.






Later on, I’m hoping to start a yearly concert for anyone who would want to contribute to helping raise money for families struggling with the battle against cancer.

I’m writing this now on the behalf of my parents. They are amazing individuals who have spent their lives giving back in the best way they know how.  With their respective health issues and the medical bills piling up, they are having a difficult time maintaining that complicated balancing act.
If you have had the privilege of knowing either of them, or even if you are just becoming acquainted with them now as you read this, I ask you to please help out in any way you can. Even the smallest amount could really alter their lives. Either way, thank you for taking the time to read this.
