Mavriks Recovery
I can't believe I have to write this. My son Mavrik became critically ill on Feb 23, 2017 and was rushed by ambulance to the icu @ Hasbro children's hospital. Doctors did not expect that he would survive the night. But they do not know my son. My 6th child came into the world on January 19, 2011. He was born with Down Syndrome, and a cardiac condition that made the NICU his home for 7 the first seven months of his life. This boy is a fighter! A lover of life. The most lovable and strongest boy we know! He has already endured 3 cardiac surgeries, pull through surgeries, a permanent pace maker, and now a blood infection that is threatening his heart and his life. His body experienced septic shock as a result of this infection, which caused his organs to become "low functioning" and I watched my son lose he all muscle tone. To see him was my darkest hour. My sweet baby. During this crisis we learned that blood was not reaching Mavrik's feet, and his feet and toes were so severely necrotic that they required amputation (both feet, one above the ankle.) I feel lost and terrified. Theres no words that can explain how I feel as a mother. My other children have now been without me for 7 weeks. As a single parent, I cannot leave Mavrik's
Side. My children are all strong and they will endure this, as we have been through many trying times together and always pulled through. Funds for his recovery will go towards a vehicle (we do not have a car at this time) and the financial toll of hospitalization, rehabilitation and our new normal as a family with a handicapped special needs child.
