3D Printing for Blind Students

I am a teacher of blind and low-vision students in a high school in Granada Hills, California. My students are enrolled in general education mathematics and science classes. However, because they can't see very well, they miss out on a lot of information presented visually. This is especially true in advanced placement math and science classes, like calculus, chemistry, and biology. 3D printing can help bridge that gap.  3D printing allows me to design models that my students can take apart and put together, like molecular models and skeletons of animals. Some models are too intricate to be printed by the 3D printer I normally use. I need money to buy a special 3D printer, the Ultimaker 3 Extended ($4295), which will allow me to make highly refined math and science models for my students. I would also like to purchase support material and equipment, like water-soluble PVA 3D-printing filament (10 spools for $450) and additional print cores (2 cores for $230). I would also like to purchase a device, called the Mosaic Palette ($799), which blends different colors of printing filament to make 3D prints of objects with parts in high-contrast colors, which would be very helpful to my low-vision students. I would use the remaining funds ($226) to buy extra PLA 3D-printing filament.
The image above shows a model of a phospholipid composed of 3D-printed atom models and aquarium or surgical tubing. This model allows my blind students to understand the molecular bonding and spatial arrangements in phospholipid molecules. Printing in two materials simultaneously, one of them water soluble, will allow me to make models involving bridging and overhangs, which is impossible with my current printer. This will allow for much more accurate modeling. My students will be greatly benefitted, and will be one step closer to being even with their sighted peers.
