Skylar is an amazing 14 year old young man. Like most teens, Sky liked to do fun things with his friends that he didnt always like to tell me about, for fear of mom not letting him. Today, there are so many "challenges" going around on social medias. Some are harmless, but most of them are really dangerous! Sky and his friends did a challenge, resulting in my son tripping over his own feet, falling and hitting his front face against a concret wall and metal window frame. Sky had a broken eye socket, wich pinched off his nerves to his eye, aneurysm on his brain and broken cheek bones. He has 48 staples on the top of his head that go ear to ear. This all happened on Jan 16th, 2016. He went under surgery and so far has been doing good his brain seems to be healing well, and his face and head. . Its still to early to determine the long term results of the sight in his eye, as of now its not showing any signs of sight. After we leave the hospital he will then go to childrens hospital for in-patient rehab for a few weeks. At rehab, I'll only be able to visit him. But this is all part of his recovery. Im just so happy my Skyman is alive.
So many friends and family ask how they can help, I honestly really only want everyone to pray for my boy and educate as many people as possible about the risks of these "challenges". If you would like to donate to Sky's fund, it will help with any costs from this point we may need help with during his time of recovery!! Thank you so much in advance for all the prayers, thoughts, kind words and followers with their loving support!!! #TEAMSKYLAR

Just wanted to update all those who have followed sky's story and cared so much about him, all those he touched who we didn't even know.... Jan 16th 2017 marked 1 year since Sky's accident. We have come so far with his recovery, he's seen many doctors and therapists over the year and has accomplished so much greatness with reaching his goals! Sky is permanently blind in his left eye, but that doesn't stop him from being amazing and handsome as ever! Thanks to his plastic surgeon Dr Hopper at Harborview Medical Center, you can hardly tell the damage that was once there. Skylar also went thru reconstructive surgery today for that left eye, giving him a new bottom bridge to help lift his eye forward. He is doing great and we will be here for the night and have 6 weeks to recover. Skylar is back to Longboarding, riding his skateboard and hanging out with his friends, safely of course! Sky has no interest in any challenges and is focusing hard at being a sophomore in high school! Again, thank you everyone who was there for us and still there for us! I can't tell you how much it means to hear from friends and strangers and ask how sky is and that they are thinking of us! You are all so amazing!!! #TEAMSKYLAR

-I have the best news everrrrrr!!! Skylar's restrictions have been lifted by his plastic surgeon! All of them! Just have to talk to his team and school to start picking them off! He can eat whatever he wants too!! We go back in one year to discuss surgery on his eye socket. He does have to have some bridge surgery, the eye doesn't pop outwards like it should. He start Pt for lifting feet off ground and eye therapy in 4 months. Until then we have speech and ot at this point. We meet with finger specialist next week and then with the Childrens hospital team end of month! We have made it thru the hardest parts of his recovery!!! Yay us!! #TEAMSKYLAR

It's been a very long 2 weeks back at home!! I'm so impressed with Skylar's spirit and confidence since his life changing accident almost a month ago! Even though he has gone back to school this week, the challenge to recovery is not over! School seems to go well, but there's so many new barriers to being back. We stay busy with appointments during the week, some taking almost 3 hours in round trip time traveling to Seattle. I couldn't have done it without any of you and the support and such kindness you have shown us. As a single mother of two kids, life already was a beautiful journey of its own, now that our lives were flipped upside down, all I could do is remember to always stay positive!! That if I was sad or depressed, my son who was suffering physically, would too become depressed! I look back at those first few weeks in the hospital, and still have no idea how I managed to take each moment one step at a time, and to remain calm and patient, to cry when I needed, but always smile with the good, and at my son! I remind him how fragile life is, and how lucky and blessed he is to be alive. The moment I will never forget is when me and Skylar drove home from Children's Hospital, he said to me "You know its okay if I have one eye, it is what it is, I'm alive." He smiled and at that moment I knew we would emotionally be okay. We made it this far... and we will make it through to the very end!! The end is not near, it's still going to be a long road to recovery and learning life with brain damage and blind in the left eye. But you would never know that stopped this kid from being and living the positive life I always encourage!! <3 #TEAMSKYLAR
