Support Ellen As She Beats Leukemia

Donation protected
UPDATE: Ellen is courageously starting yet another round of aggressive invasive chemotherapy, her fifth since November. This round of chemo is in preparation for clinical trials that will combine an umbilical cord-blood transplant (provided by a matched umbilical cord-blood donor) and a subsequent half match transplant donation from Ellen's courageous and generous brother Richie, who matches 7 out of 12 markers. The hope would be to put Ellen in remission so she can enjoy another 15 to 20 years of life. Ellen's resolve is truly awe inspiring. We humbly thank you all for your continued prayers, support and generosity.

In December 2014, shortly after her 50th birthday, Ellen Canderozzi was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After fighting through three debilitating rounds of chemotherapy, Ellen was ready to receive a bone marrow transplant, however, none of her three siblings were a match for her. So a worldwide search for a bone marrow donor was underway. Luckily, an anonymous and selfless man was a perfect match. Ellen underwent a successful bone marrow transplant on March 18, 2015.

After six long months in the hospital, Ellen was released in June 2015 and began to continue her recovery at home. Her prognosis was very good and celebrated her re-birthday on the one year anniversary of her bone marrow transplant in March 2015. Ellen had now reached remission and would just need to do weekly, bi –weekly and monthly follow up visits.

In November 2016, during her monthly follow up visit, Ellen received the devastating news that she had relapsed. The Acute Myeloid Leukemia had returned. This came as a shock since her checkup 3 weeks earlier revealed no signs or symptoms of cancer.

Ellen has once again began a series of intense chemotherapy treatments to treat her Leukemia. Ellen will also be in need of another bone marrow transplant in the near future. Despite continued support from her family, Ellen’s financial obligations have significantly increased with her relapse. Travel expenses to and from New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, along with expensive medical and prescription co-payments, and average costs for food and other household bills have become a significant financial burden for Ellen.

Ellen presently requires all of her strength to fight this horrible disease for the second time in less than two years.
