Help for Dagwood

Donation protected
This is Dagwood, my 12 year old English Bull. She was diagnosed with heart issues 6 months ago and has responded very well to daily meds. A few days ago it became apparent that Dagwood was in distress and after taking her to her vet she was diagnosed with a toxic colon due to something she ingested (Dagwood has always had a fondness for poop and rocks, it's not my thing but I try not to judge!) Yesterday I was told she likely wouldn't live to see today (6/13/13) but she did and she has shown small signs of improvement. If she continues to improve the vet would like to keep her at least 4 more days. I am looking at $1000 or more in vet bills ($600 already)...but if she makes it through she will make a full recovery and continue on with the quality of life she has had, which is a good life. She's fighting and I'm doing what I can to give her that opportunity. My life has changed in the last few years and my income no longer allows me to afford this kind of vet bill. I have volunteered in pet rescue for many years and helped raise thousands of dollars to help homeless pets in need and fostered countless dogs. Dagwood has always been a welcoming host to all our foster dogs. She has shared her home, her toys, her food, her bed...her life with homeless pets in need, now Dagwood is in need. She needs medical attention that I cannot afford and she's not a homeless foster pet with a team of rescue volunteers to rally to her aid. She is my companion and has been the companion of countless dogs and pups passing through our home. She is counting on me and after helping so many others I cannot stand the thought of not being able to help her.

I feel a bit uncomfortable asking this now for my own pet but if Dagwood fought through the night and lived when even an excellent vet felt there was a very good chance she would not, then that again proves what I have always known, Dagwood is a tough, lovable little bully...she's a fighter and I don't want to call the fight due to money, not if she's willing to fight it. If you can help with anything...$1.00, $5.00, whatever you can afford, you'll never know a more grateful individual. This IS about Dagwood, this isn't about me not wanting to let go. If you could heal a broken leg rather than euthanize your dog you would. I'm not asking to prolong her life without quality, I've been around the block enough to know that if you honestly love your pet you know when it's time to let them go. Many people want to prolong a pets life because they are not ready to let them go. This is not the case this time, this isn't about me, this is about Dagwood. After spending so many years helping homeless, unwanted pets find health and loving new homes, it brings me to tears to consider the fact that I may not be able to help my own dog. Please, if I have helped you or your pet in some way, if Dagwood played foster mom to your loving pet, please consider helping Dagwood now. If you really know me then you know I have always done whatever it took to help a pet in need, today I am doing whatever it takes to help my own dog. It feels awkward and uncomfortable to ask for help but please understand, this isn't for me, not for me directly, it's for her. She deserves the same chance to live the rest of her life as those we helped give that same chance to.
