 WEST LAFAYETTE, IN

Many of you know Steve, also known as South Street Steve. He is a homeless man who has been around Lafayette for 30 years. Steve lives behind on the west side in a makeshift lean to. I have gotten to know him over the last year and have watched his health rapidly decline. After spending several weeks trying to get him to the hospital he finally agreed. He has been in the hospital over a week at this point. Several local organizations have been in contact with him. Steve has finally agreed to accept some help. It is gonna be a long process to get him all the care he needs. We have an apartment lined up for him but he needs all household goods and groceries to get him through until we can get social security and other programs started up and going. Myself and several others are doing what we can but we could use some help! We want to set him up for success so that he is less tempted to return to the life he has known on the streets for many years. If you can donate it would be greatly appreciated! Also I am gathering donations of household goods. I will update as I can. Due to his privacy I am limited on what medical updates I can provide. I am in contact with the Doctors, Nurses, Social worker and case manager for Steve. I miss seeing Steve at work everyday but he is receiving much needed medical attention. Steve was homeless but he never begged from people! He appreciated when someone would buy him a drink or sandwich from my store. Also I have never seen anyone so excited over my chicken and noodles! Please help as you can!
I cannot figure out how to answer individual comments. If you would like to contact me to donate items I am available at 765-838-9933 or you can  email me at Tlmann1120@gmail.com. I hope this helps to clear up some things.

Thank you all for your support! I'm sorry I haven't updated as much. I work more hours on the weekend. Steve is still doing good and his spirits are high. I plan to visit a little later this evening with him! Can't wait to read him your well wishes!

I have always just called Steve by his given name. But I am aware that he has been known as both South Street Steve and also State Street Steve. Either way this is Steve. I know there have been a few people concerned of the validity of this campaign. I am not sure how to ease your worries but my phone number is plastered all over this campaign, where I work is mentioned. There are ways to contact me to ask me questions. Questions that you have every right to ask. I completely understand your hesitation! Please reach out. Thank you again!

I got all kinds of dishes and baking pans, plus my husband is bigger than Steve, but I think we can get him some jeans and work shirts, flannels, etc. What size bed sheets he need? Want food and canned goods to stock kitchen, also?

My husband and i saw him frequently at the "Spot" and would buy him a drink or two plus give him a few bucks! One winter we saw Steve without a winter coat and my husband gave him the coat off his back. Steve is a man of few words but very appreciative of any kindness shown to him. Get netter soon Steve.
