Help Send Atomic Robotics to Worlds

Edmonds Robotics Team Advances to FIRST Championship in Houston - one of six Washington State FTC teams to win a spot at Worlds!

Edmonds Heights K-12’s robotics team, FTC #3805 Atomic Robotics, has earned a spot at the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas, April 19-23 – and needs to raise $15,00.00.

The team of 10 high school and middle school students has had an impressive season, winning first place in every competition right up to the Washington State Championship in February. After State, they traveled to Victoria, Canada, and won the Think Award, an award given to the team that best reflects their journey in their Engineering Notebook, and Second Place Inspire Award – the highest award available in FIRST Robotics.

Their first-place finish at State qualified them for a spot at FTC West Super Regionals in Tacoma in March, a competition which represents teams from 13 states. They finished 8th in the Olympic Division of 34 teams and earned a spot to Worlds, an achievement only 3.27% of all FTC teams can claim.

In Houston, they will be competing against teams from the Western and Southern parts of the United States, Mexico,  all of South America, China, Western Canada, Africa, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and more. After earning their spot to Worlds, the student-led team decided to take a calculated risk and completely redesign their robot to add features that would help them score more points in the 2.5 minute matches. They took a day to draw up new designs and then got to work – and haven’t stopped since. They built a ball-hopper that collects 4 balls in a 3-second cycle and have moved on to incorporating features from their old robot that worked well. In a week they will hand the robot off to their head programmer, an 8th grader, and then will begin testing.

Here is a video of their new bot:

In the meantime, team members are preparing their judging presentation, designing an interactive pit, updating their engineering notebook and fundraising. The team has created a GoFundMe campaign at: https://www.gofundme.com/3805AtomicRobotics  and have sold t-shirts, hosted a movie night at their school, and other fundraising opportunities.

Donations are tax deductible and you can follow the team’s progress on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FTC3805AtomicRobotics/  or on Instagram:  @atomic_robotics3805, or subcribe to their Channel on YouTube at:

Our First Robot:

About the team:
We are a team of 10 Middle and High School students from Edmonds Heights K-12, an alternative school in Edmonds WA. Most of us have been working together on Atomic Robotics for 2-3 years, however 3805 has been operating for 7 years under different names. Last year we made it as far as State, but the year before that we made it all the way to Worlds. We are a passionate team who dedicates hundreds of hours to our robot, outreach with our community, fundraising and community service. We also make videos designed to help other teams in FTC and to motivate people to join FIRST.
