365 Diveable Days of Debris

Environmental Divers is a registered Charity with the ACNC. Environmental Divers Volunteers have been working hard to preserve our beautiful local dive sites and minimise waste from entering the waterways for the last few years.

Environmental Divers feel we need to do more to help preserve the marine environment so our future generations can fall in love with the ocean the same way we all have.

On January 1st 2018 Clean up Crew - Environmental Divers working with our friends from the Project AWARE Foundation, PADI, Gold Coast Waterways Authority, Queensland Scuba Diving Company, Professional Dive Services, Devocean Dive and Sea World Research, Rescue & Conservation will begin undertaking the longest continual marine debris survey EVER conducted in the world.

365 Diveable Days of Debris to be exact.

We will be working with all of our major partners and sponsors closely over the 365 Diveable Days of Debris survey period to remove, sort and submit the data from these dives conducted within the Gold Coast Seaway and Broadwater. The Gold Coast is home to the second largest canal and waterways system in the world, so is an absolutely perfect place to undertake this challenge.

As this is a world first, the debris data collected will be invaluable to future planning at a local, state and federal level. This data will go a long way to assist in putting these future plans and policies into place and ensuring our waterways are kept clean while finding many possible potential solitions in minimising the amount of debris ending up in our waterways.

While 365 Diveable Days of Debris does not sound glamorous or seem too inviting to most we can assure you we can not wait to get started!

We will be uploading our data daily to the My Oceans webpage www.projectaware.org as we as daily posts and updates on our own pages. We will also be providing educational sessions at local schools and behind the scenes days with our various partners. At the conclusion of the 365 Diveable Days of Debris this footage will be made into a documentary highlighting the impact litter and waste is having on the marine environment.

You can find more information on Environmental Divers and the work we do making every dive count beneath the waves on our Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/EnvironmentalDivers/?ref=page_internal

How can you help? You can donate to Environmental Divers cause 365 Diveable Days of Debris. These funds will be used to cover any costs related to and associated with the 365 Diveable Days of Debris challenge and associated educational sessions with local schools.

The 365 Diveable Days of Debris challenge will begin on January 1st 2018 and we expect to be wrapping the project up around March 2019 taking weather for the last few years into consideration.

Environmental Divers will literally be living and breathing marine debris for 15 months straight, we will probably be counting hooks in our sleep. We would love if you could help us achieve this world first.

It's definitely time to take out the trash.
