Sean's Garage Giveaway (GG) is one of the most popular events at KansasFest. We've been freely giving away vintage Apple computers, peripherals, books. magazines and software (and *much* more) for several years now.

Many of the items we redistribute come from other retro Apple enthusiasts collections, typically because they're downsizing, lost interest or sadly, have passed on. Some of it is shipped in, some of it we travel and fetch. The important thing to the former owners and to us is that we keep vintage Apple stuff out of the landfill and in the hands of appreciative enthusiasts like you.

We don't sell any of it because we believe what is freely given should be freely shared with the rest of our community. We do accept donations during KansasFest to cover storage, travel and gas expenses, but we're always in the red.

At the suggestion of several KansasFest attendees and friends, I've opted to start this GFM so that they may support the Garage Giveaway as they see fit. Your gift directly helps offset the expense of bringing the vintage Apple II and Macintosh goodies to KansasFest.

Hi everyone. I wanted to thank you for supporting this GFM. I was thinking of closing this project down because it met it's initial goal; to pay off the major expenses I incurred to acquire a major Apple II collection and have it shipped via moving van (it was that big) from Washington to Kansas. Your contributions helped take a lot of the pain out of shouldering this expense.

We've been giving out bits from this particular collection for the last 3 years at the KansasFest Garage Giveaway (kansasfest.org). We've also sent equipment, documentation and software to reputable and deserving developers and archivists in our community. We support saving and documenting everything about our retro-computing heritage for the benefit of everyone.

Due to its sheer immensity, we'll probably be dipping in to just the collection from Washington for an additional two years before it's completely tapped out. But we're not done... since then, we've also made trips to Florida and Texas to add even more fun stuff to give away and additional acquisition trips are being planned even now. We also get a ton of stuff locally.

At the urging of friends and supporters in the Apple II, KansasFest and retro-computing communities, I've decided to change the funding goal for this project. Initially, I had planned to scale back or shut down the Garage Giveaway at some point (probably when we ran out of stuff) which had been estimated around 2018. Well, it looks like 2020 is much more likely. We make dent in the storage (yea, progress) and then manage to fill it back up again.

I'll be accepting donations again to help offset our expenses. Storage is $100 a month, and when we travel to acquire collections, we have other expenses: truck rental, gas, hotel, food and sometimes airplane tickets if the trip is too long for a rounder by truck.

Also, some collections are not quite free, but are too significant to pass up. For example, during our Florida trip, we paid $1000 for a huge collection but that was only a fraction of the collection's net worth and turned out to be money well spent. It's two, maybe three years worth of giveaway material.

Well, there you have it. If you'd care to help out, you have my personal gratitude. Please share this with anyone whom you feel would be interested in our continuing project. Thank you.

Since the last update, we've had two acquisition trips. One to Florida, another to Texas. The Florida trip came with an additional last-hour expense, that frankly, would have made the trip impossible without the generous help of the community via this GFM. Thank you! We received a sizeable collection of vintage Macintosh gear that is now destined for KFest. We'll stretch it out over the next couple of conferences, so we don't overwhelm everyone.

We also have two more trips in the works if all goes well: Colorado and Ohio for Apple II goodies. Both trips will require truck rentals due to their size.

I'm really looking forward to KansasFest and I hope you'll be there too. Apple II Forever!

Thanks everyone. It's an awesome feeling to have the support of so many friends in the Apple II and KansasFest communities. I'm definitely feeling the warm fuzzies.

We still have a little way to go to complete funding. Once that's done, I'll breath a lot easier for our upcoming trip to Florida.

Thank you again for your generosity and continued support. It means a lot to me.

Thank you for your generosity. The funds raised so far will pay off the rest of this years storage fees, and the rest will be applied to offset expenses acquiring a sizable collection in Florida this November. We'll have to rent a 16' box truck to haul it all. Again, thank you for your help in keeping this KansasFest event alive. Apple II Forever!
