Veterans Go 2 Standing Rock in 360°

Donation protected
Thank you so much for stopping by our GoFundMe page! We're a small group of immersive media professionals, from all over the US, looking to capture and deliver honest, 360° coverage of the Standing Rock demonstration. We would be incredibly honored if you would help support our journey to North Dakota.

The Story

On December 4, hundreds of veterans plan to "deploy" to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota to join in protest against the planned Dakota Access Pipeline.

The event, Veterans Stand for Standing Rock, is a call for veterans to "assemble as a peaceful, unarmed militia" to "defend the ‘water protectors’ from assault and intimidation at the hands of the militarized police force and DAPL security." The organizers hope to prevent progress on the construction of the pipeline, as well as draw national attention to the cause.

We want to be there first-hand, not only to document this historic demonstration of support from our Veterans, but also to share their stories with the rest of the world. To do this, we aim to capture the demonstration with the utmost accuracy, utilizing our next-generation, 360° video technology. By transplanting the viewer into the event, and by providing them with the ability to visualize every aspect, our 360° technology allows for a level of transparency and context that traditional media has been unable to convey.

Moments such as these, now more than ever, call for advanced video technology. How else will everyone across the world be able to Stand for Standing Rock?

The Goal

Our team recognizes the immediate need to capture this demonstration and assist Standing Rock veterans. Therefore, we will be leaving for North Dakota within 24 hours of this GoFundMe campaign going live! The goal is to raise the total amount of support by this Friday 12/09, in order to utilize these funds in the most direct way possible:

*As the ACOE has given Standing Rock Reservation their December 5th eviction notice, ~2,500 veterans are on their way to help defend the Water Protectors. Our mission is to keep the world’s eye on Standing Rock, to provide these veterans with winter supplies and other necessities, and to help ensure the Water Protectors safety.

*Veterans Stand for Standing Rock epitomizes the need for 360° media: Providing our viewers with the ability to fully visualize and comprehend the virtual surroundings of this historic event - a pivotal example of our mission in informing and educating the world.

*The Dakota Access Pipeline serves as a very real threat to climate change, furthering the use of fossil fuels. We are extremely cautious of our carbon footprint, and are avid believers in reducing the amount of pollution in Earth’s atmosphere - Go Tesla!

*We will be placing ourselves in the action, capturing stories as journalists and filming newsworthy events from both sides of the demonstration.

The Plan: Where does the money go?

Our team members are purely donating their time, skills and passion to this cause in order to help make a difference. With your generous support, we will have the monetary resouces that allow us to:

*Gather supplies, rental a vehicle, and travel to North Dakota - including car rental. insurance, and gas.

*Purchase additional equipment for capturing the Standing Rock demonstration - Gas masks, face shields, coats, boots, and socks.

*Share the content with you immediately, using Internet and FedEx - Shipping & Postage

*Donate winter gear to the Water Protectors upon arrival and departure - Coats, boots, and socks.

*Provide additional support to the Water Protectors at Standing Rock Reservation.  - Anything else we can leave behind.

The Crew

In order to capture and tell this story properly, we’ve put together a renegade team of 360° experts and award-winning documentarians:

Jake Ingraham
- Executive Producer / DP

Our CTO, Executive Producer, and resident “Greaseman” Jake Ingraham has the uncanny ability to get footage from anywhere at anytime, right under the noses of any authority. He will be our main shooter in the thick of the event, putting us on the front lines at Standing Rock.

Maranatha Hay
- Director / Producer

Maranatha Hay is a five-time Emmy-award winning director, editor, cinematographer and entrepreneur. She has directed over half a dozen documentaries, covering the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and Liberia, the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa, and children undergoing surgery in the Middle East. Not only have her films raised over a million dollars for charity, she is beloved by her clients and peers for her adventurous spirit. Maranatha is a perfect fit for Standing Rock, as she has uniquely adapted to working in the most challenging situations.

Eric Fisher
- Producer

No stranger to travel, adventure and challenging technical environments, Eric Fisher is our resident “road dog,” clocking the most flight miles, 16-hour days, and onsite troubleshooting than the entire team combined. His quick intellect and sense of calm under pressure make him a perfect candidate for our Lead Story Producer.

Dan Argo
- Lead Production Tech & Public Relations

Dan Argo is our Lead Technician, drone pilot, engineer, and onsite “everyman.” A veteran himself, Dan will give us credibility and access into the large influx of vets heading to Standing Rock, all while being our eyes and ears on the ground.

Michael Cimpher
- 360° Camera Expert

Michael Cimpher is a multi-disciplined director of short films, documentaries, music videos and 360 content. He grew up in Boston and studied at the London Film School. With a deep passion for the motion picture, he has been lucky enough to work around the globe creating life long friendships and adventures. He currently resides in NYC, but is willing and able to travel immediately to North Dakota to support Standing Rock veterans and capture the event with his clever camera work.

The Funds

$1500
Thank you!! This gets us a team of 2-3 crew out to Standing Rock for 2-4 days. We can capture a good amount of the story, focusing primarily on the veterans march on Standing Rock. Then release 2-3 independent pieces of 360° content.
+1 - Small set of winter gear to donate upon our departure to LA.

$2500
Cool!! Will allow a bit bigger team (3-5) and stay up through December 7th. The extra monies would also allow us to ship our footage back each night, enabling a much faster turnaround for the story. We won't have to wait for the team to return to start stitching and editing. Content will then start being released December 20th, with output boosted to 3-5 independant 360° products.
+1 - Medium set of winter gear to donate upon our departure to LA.

$3500
Awesome!!! Added funds allow us to mobilize a post production team in LA for immediate edit. We will be able to stitch, edit, and begin releasing 360° content within 96 hours of it being shot. This added post team will help polish up the final product, adding graphics and fully spacial audio.
+1 - Large tub of winter gear to donate upon our departure to LA.

$5000
Wow! Let's shoot for the stars! We will fill our 7-passenger SUV up with every possible winter supply we can afford, donating each and every piece to the water protectors. With an even slightly more expanded post-production team, we will be able to stitch, edit, and begin releasing 360° content within 48 hours of it being shot. More SFX, GFX, custom composed music and fully spacial audio.
+1 - Extra-Large tub of winter gear to donate upon our departure to LA.
