My presentation trip to Lithuania

My name is Barrett Scroggs and I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Life Span Human Development at Kansas State University. A paper I co-authored was recently accepted for presentation at the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development conference in Vilnius, Lithuania.
My research centers around the experience of Emerging Adults (ages 18-29) and how they are able to develop empathy skills through experience in Creative Drama. During this period of life emerging adults experience development in the functioning of their own emotions as well as more complex thinking about affect (Labouvie-Vief, 2006) that enhances their ability at perspective taking (Schulenberg & Zarrett, 2006). Results from my research suggest that this group of students experienced a cognitive shift over time in their ability to think about the perspective of another person due, in part, to their participation in a Creative Drama course.
As a graduate student I am on a tight budget. Even with that I am hopeful that I can find a way to make this trip a possibility. Funds raised for this trip will support me in many ways including airfare, lodging, food, conference fees, etc.
This trip began as a challenge to myself. I did not expect for my poster to be accepted for presentation and yet I went out on a limb to challenge myself as an academic. I am excited to have the opportunity to share my research with my colleagues in the field of human development. I look forward to being a bridge between the worlds of human development and creative drama/drama therapy. This will also be the furthest that I have travelled from home; an experience I am also looking forward to.
Any financial assistance will be helpful as I make this journey. I am forever grateful for the assistance that I receive and I look forward to sharing more about my experience at this conference once I return home. Thank you.
