Save Backyard Terrors Dinosaur Park
Backyard Terrors Dinosaur Park is a donation based attraction. We believe everyone has the right to experience the magic of seeing life size dinosaurs! We only continue and grow through patron support. Three years ago Chris Kastner came up with the concept of a dinosaur park that could educate and entertain kids of all ages, operating only on donations. Chris, an artist, donates all of his time and skill to bring this place alive, along with help from a few generous friends. Funds are collected only for materials needed to aid in expanding the Park and creating new exhibits. A Fossil Dig Site and Gift Shop/Visitor area have been developed solely with support from visitors, sponsors and patrons!
Hi, it's Chris from Backyard Terrors Dinosaur Park. We are currently facing a crisis that may lead to the Park closing in June. Here is the brief status.
Week of December 6, 2015
We've kept things fairly quiet about a situation we have been dealing with. We had some issues during our Trick or Treat with the Dinosaurs event, which around 3200 people attended. The impact of this high attendance led to an inspection by the Sullivan County Planning and Codes Dept. They claim that they have been and are still receiving complaints about us. This has led us to file for a Special Use permit for which approval will be decided next Wednesday. Our goals here have always been to provide an inexpensive and fun place to visit with your whole family. We really hope to be able to continue to do that.

Well we came back from the meeting with good news and bad news. Good news first, eh? The Park will remain open at least for the next six months. Bad news. We will have to halt all special events until that time period is over. Good news. We can get them reinstated provided we get some upgrades to the Park here. Bad news. These upgrades will be a bit of work and a little costly. One requirement is a dedicated restroom for Park use to replace the portable toilet we've been renting from Blountville Septic. The other requirement is a better dedicated parking area. We are going to be finding out specifics in the following days and I will post them here as we do. We will be asking for donations to help with these projects. Time and/or money would really help us. If you know anyone who might be able to assist, please point them our way. You may donate to my PayPal account by entering the following link into your browser: PayPal.Me/BackyardTerrors
Attached is a copy of the paperwork we were given that lays out the guidelines we must follow. Any and all help is appreciated. You are receiving this because you have helped us in the past and I consider you a friend of the Park. Please feel free to share with anyone who might be able to assist us.

I'm going to raise the amount we need soon, looking it over we needed 10,000 or more for the rest room alone. You can see in the details our current totals, 6,465 was raised over several years and was used in all park projects. Gofundme's service also takes a portion to complete transactions. Our current fund has about 170.00 in it. Not much, but we have another 6 months til our next meeting with the Sullivan County BZA. This has been and I suspect will be a long drawn out process and I want to thank everyone who has donated to us and offered to help, it's not forgotten. Hopefully in the new year we can move forward, please continue to spread the word about us and our plight, we want to continue to be here for ears to come and provide a fun, free entertaining experience for all!
