On May 12th Jeff Bertolet's daughter/Karen's stepdaughter, Morgan Brittain, overdosed on heroin. She had been doing well and thriving in an inpatient treatment center for the previous 2 months. She knew she had a problem and was working hard to overcome it. Morgan was one of the treatment center's youth leaders, helping others, and making huge strides. She was doing so well she earned a weekend pass to spend Mother's Day at home.

Sometime that night she decided she wanted to get high "one last time." All it took was a few texts, and she got her hands on some heroin. Unfortunately, her tolerance was way down due to her 2 months being clean and sober, and she suffered a cardiac arrest during the early morning hours on Sunday. Morgan was found with barely any pulse and she had aspirated and it's a miracle she even lived through this massive trauma. The lack of oxygen to her brain caused massive brain damage on top of the damage caused by smoking heroin. She is only 17, a smart, beautiful, funny girl, with so much potential.

Morgan faces a long, long road to recovery and extended rehab and physical therapy. She's been in the Pediatric ICU for a month and has a tracheotomy and feeding tube. All of this is going to cost a lot of money, that we just don't have. I never thought I'd have to ask for donations to care for my daughter but here we are.

The donations will go toward her hospital bills, rehabilitation and long term care. If there is any money left it will be donated to treatment for other addicts who are suffering and needing help. Any little bit will help and THANK YOU in advance. Also, thank you all SO much for all your support throughout this tragedy.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've posted any updates, Morgan had been pretty much the same until last week.

She got the influenza virus and another infection, I think, and ended up back in the hospital in the ICU. Since she has been in the hospital, she has been communicating via tapping her hand once or twice for yes or no. The doctors found out that she can see, but is seeing double. They gave her some tiny bits of soft food (ice cream, etc) and she's eating it and tolerating it! The doctors and neurologist are calling it a miracle.

She is back on the ventilator, but is breathing along with it when she's awake. The real reason we know Morgan is in there is that she flipped a couple of the nurses the "bird" and said the "F" word, that's our girl! :)

I forgot to mention in my last update (moments ago...sorry for multiple emails/posts!), that we are selling t-shirts, $25/each, here is the link:

or you can just send an email to"morganstrong97@gmail.com", but hurry, we are ordering shirts soon, so if you want to get your size in, now is the time!! Thank you ALL again for all your love and support!!!

Thank you to all who have donated, we are overwhelmed by the support!! There is no way to predict the extent of Morgan's brain damage, but she is still making small improvements. In a couple of weeks, she will be moved to a different facility where she can get more specialized care. This is going to be a long road for Morgan and we can't thank everyone enough!!

I just want everyone to know the prayers and support have helped so much keep it up cause her progress is and it's so appreciated thank you and god bless.

I wish I could donate, but I can't. All I can afford is prayers. I have two teenage daughters myself and I cannot image what it would be like to go through this.

I should be dead from addiction. If I didn't get help from so many people there would be nobody typing this message and sending you this money. I hope it helps you. You and I both got second chances we didn't deserve. I don't plan to waste mine. I don't know you, but I love you. Keep kickin' ass :)
