Ron Gonyea - Road to Recovery
Donation protected
As you may know, Ron suffered a freak accident on April 27, 2013. He fell and hit his head on a wall in the early hours of that Saturday morning. He was rushed by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital and underwent surgery on April 28th to repair his fractured C-4 vertebrae and spent the next 9 days in ICU.
Ron was then transferred to Shepherd Spinal Center where they have been working tirelessly to help him adjust and adapt to his new way of life.
Ron was originally scheduled to be released from Shepherd in mid-June however due to insurance limitations it appears that he will be coming home on or around June 4th.
There is much to be done to prepare Ron's house for his return. Modifications need to be made: widen doorways; re-do the downstairs bathroom completely; build a ramp from garage into the house, etc. Not to mention the equipment that must be ordered and received - two wheelchairs (one specifically for showering), hospital bed, hoyer lift, and a wheelchair-equipped van. If that isn't enough, round-the-clock caregivers must be interviewed and hired and we're quickly learning how expensive all of this is.
Ron's kids and father are shouldering much of this burden including figuring out how to pay for everything. While we all have hope that Ron will regain full mobility, the reality is that at the moment he doesn't have full use of his arms and legs and his world needs to be set up for him to function in a new way. All of the medical equipment, home modifications and round-the-clock care will cost an exorbitant amount of money.
So many have asked how you can help...I am not shy in telling you that along with your thoughts and prayers for Ron, monetary contributions would be tremendously helpful and greatly appreciated.
On behalf of Ron and his family, thank you for any donation you are able to make to help offset his medical and rehabilitation costs. Everyone's generosity and concern for Ron during this very challenging time has been beyond amazing and extraordinarily uplifting. Again, we thank you!
