309- The Punk Museum - Phase 1

$2,780 of $2,000 goal

Raised by 64 people in 28 months
Since at least the early 1990s, a central spot in Pensacola's punk scene was 309.  As many of you know, several former residents of (arguably) the oldest continuously inhabited punk house in the United States are trying to save the home and keep it as a museum to punk and a home for artists--essentially the same thing its been since the beginning.

Our idea is to create a punk house that everyone "owns." While mostly serving as a collective house, our rough idea is to make this a collective landmark for punk--not just local punk, too.

Our original plan called for raising $14,000 for a multitude of pieces to the first phase. After reevaluation, we're starting this campaign with the non-profit status first. We believe this will help raise money and give the project more transparency and legitimacy, not only with our donors but also with the community. Therefore, the new goal is $2,000.

Over the years, photographers, painters, writers, activists, and (of course) musicians have lived in 309. We're hoping that through our efforts, we'll be able to preserve this unique part of Pensacola's cultural history as well as provide a great service to the worldwide punk community.

Our goal is fairly simple: Fix what needs to be repaired on the century old home, preserve the integrity of what 309 has become since it started as a punk house, save it for the community, give a home for artists/punk researchers, and allow a space for future generations to appreciate our beautiful and culturally rich community.

To do so, we'll need your help. Please consider donating generously. All money raised will go directly to the project.  If you have any questions, please contact us.

Thank you so much.

We had an amazing benefit show at Chizuko last week. Without any hesitation, Patrick Hutchinson and Matt Pham helped organize 5 bands and performers (Kent Stanton, Earl's Killer Squirrel, DFM, Resolve, and Company of Ghosts). The show was great. Chizoku was so friendly, supportive, and accommodating. We raised approximately $230 at that show, bringing our total raised so far to nearly $2400 (and our first goal was only $2000!)--and donations still come in! From old friends and new ones, from close by and as far away as Ireland. The support for the 309 Punk Museum Project has really taken off, and we want to say thanks so much to everyone who's helped. Thank you so very much!!!

I will never forget the first night I saw this house, Gabe Smith brought me here in 2002. Cheapest rent ever, $59 a month was the lowest it got for me. Now I live in California and spend $59 an hour. Scotty, you notice Totinos Pizzas got rid of the paper box? It's just in plastic now.
