3 Peaks Challange for Air Ambulance

The challenge
We are a group of three friends all aged 20 and have known each other since primary school. I(Ross) am currently studying Strength and conditioning at The University of Central Lancashire. Connor is undergoing his Apprentership in the RAF and Paul is a second year apprentice Motorbike Mechanic and keen Motocross rider.

Whenever we are free we love to explore the mountains of north wales and we are slowly but surely trying to cover every inch of the beautiful Snowdonia National park.

This year we have decided that we want to use our passion and ever growing experience to really challenge ourselves and raise money for a good cause. So, what better way than the National three peaks challenge!

On the 10th of August the three of us will attempt to go up the highest peaks in Scotland, England and wales in just 24 hours! 26 miles (42km) total horizontal distance, 3,000m (9,843ft) of vertical ascent, 3 peaks.

·         Ben Nevis, Scotland (1344m)

·         Scaffel Pike, England (978m)

·         Snowdon, Wales (1085m)

I will be using my Knowledge of strength and conditioning to create a tailored programme for each of us and we will be working hard to ensure that we can do the challenge and the charity justice come August.

The charity-
Wales Air Ambulance is an all Wales charity providing emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries.

Why are they needed?
The charity’s four helicopters are confronted with a diverse and challenging landscape. Over 8,000 sq miles of remote countryside, bustling towns and cities, vast mountain ranges, and 800 miles of coastline.

With a widely scattered population and diverse landscape, many in Wales live in isolated locations, far from a major or specialist hospital. In urban areas, traffic congestion and collisions can significantly delay treatment when on a road ambulance. For these reasons, there is a recognised need for three helicopters on active duty 365 days a year.

How can your donations make a difference?
Wales Air Ambulance is funded by the people of Wales; they rely entirely on the public’s support to help keep the helicopters flying. The charity does not receive direct funding from the government and they also fail to qualify for National Lottery funding. The money is therefore raised through charitable donations, fundraising events and membership of our in-house Lifesaving Lottery.

The charity needs to raise £6.5 million every year to operate the service. The charity raises all the funds required for the day-to-day running of missions, with each mission on average costing £1500.

Your donations to the Welsh Air Ambulance will be greatfully recived and our challenge team has already started training hard to really smash the three peaks.
