3 COR Warriors
Thank you all for being a part of this amazing team. Late Friday night/Early Saturday morning, 3 ladies of the Colorado Obstacle Racers team were involved in a serious car accident still under investigation.
We unfortunately lost Corrina Vaden, our thoughts and prayers are now with her and our family.
Kym Butcher, a single mother of a beautiful teenage daughter, has 1 broken legs, had her spleen removed, lots of swelling and many more surgeries to come. Kym is still in the ICU.
Elizabeth Rotter, a friend to so many and always there to support her friends and fellow racers, has a collapsed lung (thankfully she is breathing on her own now), a broken arm and head trauma. Elizabeth is out of the ICU.
The families have collectively decided to reach out as a group with regards to this gofundme campaign. We are confident this effort will allow the most people who would like to contribute to be able to do so, spreading the word far and wide as quickly as possible- with ALL of YOUR Help!
Our goal of $60k is very realistic, and we fully expect it to be met and surpassed with the help of all of you, your friends, family, communities and your generosity in this time of need.
We recognize that you may wish to donate directly to an individual(s). Please include this in the comments at donation, or in a direct message, and it will be honored.
We will be splitting the money 3 ways between the families for
(plus or minus the specified donations)
These will be used for any medical, rehab or other damages related to the accident
Corrina’s family may need help with funeral some cost.
Every dollar counts whether it’s $5, $20, $1000… anything is greatly appreciated and will go to helping these wonderful women and their families in this time of need. Please, spread the word and thank you for your help!
Ellie is looking much better this morning as she had a lot of bruising. She is alert and looking at all of the Facebook posts herself instead of having them read to her. She does not have the energy to respond to them. The are making her SO HAPPY! She is literally hugging her phone!! Please keep them coming. She is touched by all of the encouragement.
She needs to work hard to get out of the hospital. The pain meds help her do the breathing exercises she needs to accomplish. With fractured ribs and bones, it is challenging. But you know our Ellie and challenges!!
Ellie is deeply touched and thankful for your incredible outpouring of love and support.
The accident happened around 11pm Friday night. She was transported to the ER and then admitted to the ICU.
She suffered a severe lung and head injury as well as a series of bone fractures all along the right side of her body. None of the fractures can be addressed through surgery. It's a matter of concentrated time and non weight bearing movement for her right side to heal. She is very bruised as well. She is on oxygen until her lung repairs.
Her pain levels are high which they are treating with pain medication. She is exhausted to say the least and does not carry on much conversation. She is very focused on her healing. She knows where she is and knows that there is a great outpouring of support for her and all those involved in this horrific tragedy. The photos and messages make her smile in the midst of a challenging time. Please keep them coming through Facebook!
They gave orders to let her start eating solid foods and we have brought in coconut oil to soothe her skin and lips. She has minimal appetite but loves the coconut water we brought in.
Her phone was lost or left behind at the accident scene. She cannot check messsages or see her texts until we figure out where it is.
It's all still very surreal and we are sad to be so far away from home and our community.
Occupational Therapy will come by later today. Hope to see if she can tolerate being upright in a wheel chair
for a short period of time. The medical team is fabulous and we cannot thank them and you all enough!
Love Ellie and her family
Sharing this to all of my friends. I was in a car accident a few months, and many of my Spartan friends stepped up to help me at that time. We are a family. I'm so sorry for the loss of Corrina, and I hope that Kym and Elizabeth recovery fully with time. We're here for you, ladies. I know first-hand how horrible an experience like this is, and I want you to know that you are not alone. Aroo!
It's taken a while to put this into words...The OCR community of which these ladies are a part is clearly very large and reaches across the globe. It's members possess a spirit of camaraderie, kindness, caring and helpfulness which is unsurpassed in today's world. Even if they don't know you, they will support and encourage you...and they'll be there to help you get pass insurmountable hurdles. Whether it be the wall at a race or life's challenges, such as Kym. Elle, and Corrina's family are now facing, they're always there! It is gut wrenching and heartbreaking to lose one and see the others suffering like this! ...and so senseless that these ladies who do so much to keep the mind, body and spirit so well conditioned have been so traumatized by the mistakes and poor choices of another! Ladies, you are loved and supported. CORrinna, you are missed. OCR community, keep doing what you do! The world needs you!
Hey ladies! I'm over here cheering you on! Hearing your updates are an inspiration! Keep those chins up and chests out. You WILL get through this. You are AMAZING!
