Hi there! My name is Inonge Kasaji and I am a recent graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
As many of you know, my family moved from Zambia thirteen years ago in pursuit of a better life and over that time, I watched my parents struggle to ensure that my sister and I had the opportunity to go to school. By the grace of God, I was able to attend Union College where I had the opportunity to grow as a person and pursue my passion for helping people through various community projects around Lincoln.
Now, as many of you know, I am an international student and being an international student has not been easy. Because of my status as an International student, I do not qualify for any federal loans and very few scholarships are available to me. During my time at Union, I was only able to help finance my education through working on campus 20 hours a week (40 in the summer), joining ASB (Associated Student Body) in leadership positions, various scholarships offered through the school including the Presidential Discretionary Award, and generous donations from kind strangers.
Despite all this, however, I still have a fairly large balance of $19,386 left on my account. Today I am asking you to help me as much as you can with this balance. To start with, I need to raise $2,500 in order to avoid my visa status running out on September 6th. As you can see, I am working on a very tight deadline. I would be grateful for any amount donated to help me get one step closer to my future.
