Help Us Get Into a New Home

Donation protected
The Moses family has lived in Ludlow for more than 10 years, and they planned to stay in the town they call home for many years to come.

Janet is a registered nurse and has worked at the nursing home for the last ten years, and her husband Jason is a Machinist and an Author. They have raised their family in the community, and four of their kids graduated from Black River High School.

Now, they are facing an uncertain future.

In the Fall of 2018 their landlord told them about the possibility of the house they were renting going into foreclosure,  but she constantly reassured them that the issue would be resolved. So they lived their lives.

Shortly before Christmas of 2018 Janet and Jason learned that their landlord had lost their home to foreclosure.

This winter has been colder and more unpredictable then the last, and like many of us, the Moses' have very little money leftover from each paycheck, and no real savings to fill in the gaps. So money was already tight when they were asked by the real estate agent handling the foreclosure to vacate their home.

The request was not a legal one, and they followed up with an attorney, who unfortunately only made matters worse by failing to notify them of their rights as renters.

"We were told to look for a place but not panic because we would eventually be served with a writ and have 90 days from that date."

So Janet and Jason began to look for a place to move their family and pets, but found that to be more than difficult in a town that caters to tourism rentals.

In the meantime, The plumbing broke in the basement. And the furnace starred to malfunction and is burning through fuel. Since the foreclosure left them without a landlord, it was on Janet and Jason to pay for these repairs themselves.

Then their only vehicle needed new tires and brakes to get them to work. And a bunch of other little stuff happened that strained their already tight budget and ate away any other money they had put aside for a new place to live.

Earlier this week they were surprised by a Sheriff at their door, with an eviction notice, giving them just 14 days to vacate the home. They have contacted Legal Aid and are fighting the length of time stated in the writ, but they will still need to move.

With no place to go and no money to move, the Moses family needs help raising funds to move. The money they are requesting will contribute to their security deposit, first and last month's rent, and moving expenses.

Please help this local family stay local. They have put down roots in this community, are they are proud to be a part of their town, and they need your help.
