SUPERnerd needs SUPERhealing powers

Ryan Keely (or as some know her, Ri) was driving to the scrap yard on Wednesday when she noticed her right arm had turned a deep shade of lavender. It had been a tough week between interstate travel, the car accident and the nerves that come with starting a new job. She wasn’t excited about this new lavender arm development; one more thing to add to a long list. She drove to the Kaiser Permanente Urgent Care by her apartment in Hollywood. By the time she arrived the lavender had spread upwards, giving her the distinct appearance of Zebidiah Killgrave. Unfortunately, Ryan’s week hasn’t improved.
Ryan was quickly found to have five blood clots; three in her arm and two in her lung. The initial procedure revealed that it would be a long road ahead. A surgery on Friday to remove a rib went as well as something like that could. A diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and a follow up angioplasty procedure was performed the following Tuesday. For those of you that know Ryan, you know that she wasn’t phased. The jokes and ridiculous hospital selfies continue.
Ryan is a fiercely independent warrior princess. She’s a freelancing hustler, creatively stringing together a wide range of jobs: sex-pert, writer, television and radio host, esthetician, comic-consultant, professional naked lady, cosplay-extraordinaire. When she isn’t working she keeps herself busy with books, comics (trade edition only;-)), organizing a female Magic the Gathering community in Los Angeles (lovingly known as Vagic the Gathering) or shooting cat videos. In short, Ryan is a hard-working smarty pants. This crisis has put her in a place of vulnerability and dependence, unfamiliar to the amazon princess.

In order to make a full recovery that will allow Ryan to return to her life and work, she will have to remain immobile for dozens of weeks. The best case scenario will have her back to work in the beginning of June. Until then, she will have no ability to earn an income. The hospital bills are adding up quick and the rent won’t wait. Many of us can relate to being just one surprise medical crisis away from becoming homeless. We are organizing this fundraiser to allow Ryan a stress-free recovery where she can remain focused on getting back to being Ryan.
We are challenging everyone to be as generous and as compassionate as Ryan always is. All funds will go directly to Ryan to cover mounting medical debt, stay in her apartment and cover the ongoing physical rehabilitation stemming from this diagnosis.
