Gordon Deal Stroke Recovery Fund

Donation protected
As you may know, our dad (Gordon), known as "JoJo" to others, had a stroke last November (11/11/15).

He suffered right-side paralysis and cannot effectively communicate verbally. While he continues to show tremendous progress on those fronts, my mom and he could use a little help financially to cover some of the medical expenses.
A singe prescription for Xeralto, for example, can cost as much as$1,700.
Getting an injection of Enbrel, a drug that could be used off-label for stroke patients, goes for $7,000.
If he doesn't make the progress that we expect, sending him back to a 24/7 acute rehab facility would cost around $500 per day. If he needed a minimum of 60 days, you can see how it adds up quickly.
Out of pocket expenses, like a return to acute rehab, or a private home health aide, aren't designed with fixed-incomes in mind.
Since Dad's unable to work, and Mom spends her days taking care of him, her ability to earn her usual extra money is limited, too. Her responsibilities now include making sure he's eating, staying hydrated, taking meds, staying positive, and focusing him on in-home rehab.

That said, my sister (Kristy) and I have set a fundraising goal of $45,000.
It's not often that children get to give back to parents, which is why we'd like to help a guy who always volunteers and gives so much of himself to others.
We're optimistic that the money will be more than needed, because we believe Dad will continue toward a full recovery. He is motivated and driven.
He better be, after all, because Mom wants to launch her own stroke advocacy group, and wants Dad to be a part of it. Rest assured, any remaining money will go to that cause and plenty of others that these two are involved with.
Thanks from the bottom of our hearts,
Gordie and Kristy Deal
