Please Help Me Keep a Room!
Hi guys!
I've started this campaign because as many of you know, starting out in a big city is one of the most difficult things to do! In late June, I came to NYC from Pittsburgh for what was supposed to be a two-week visit, and decided to stay and ride the wave of opportunity for the next several months before returning to university studies (joint BS/Master's in Neuro please pray for me) in Fall 2017.
The past two months have been awash with constant excitement, awesome friendships, and a world of firsts; I got a chance to do photography for a Broadway makeup artist's portfolio, shot another designer's collection, got an internship with a modeling agency, longboarded 65 blocks in the middle of the night, worked for a Netflix/Spike Lee production, and am starting as an assistant to a published NYC fashion and portrait photographer (a woman of Color - duh!) this week - rest assured, I could go on.
Being back in New York City has given me new breadth in my interests, from learning to sew lingerie and taking the first steps towards opening a business in the next 8-12 months (I was gifted a serger by an ex-seamstress!) to trying nightlife and street photography while attending various Clubkid party digs, art shows, and lectures (I never considered myself to be the going-out type but whaddya know).
About a week ago (week ago!), I moved into a room in Brooklyn - both for the localized art/music/food/gentry scene and to be physically closer to my mother - and despite its relatively cheap cost (by NYC standards at $175/week, all utilities and Wi-Fi and cable included), funds are a little tight for the next two weeks, partially due to the emergency dictated by a suddenly defunct phone.
In addition to waiting around on checks from assorted gigs in the mail, I just got a paying job working at Ganso Ramen in Brooklyn (slide through if you're in the area!) and my training period ends late next week. While I'm looking for and doing a few odd jobs, any and all donations will be appreciated immensely.
Thank you guys so much for reading this, and please share!
