Hi everyone, I would like to introduce ourselves to who we are, we are Curtis & Tina Cook we rescue animals (mainly cats)........It's that time where we need to ask for all your help! We are average everyday people who have a passion for animals! We need help raising money for food to feed over 125 cats, as well as help with their vet care. We have been their caretakers for 13 years now and we have many people who will vouch for what we do. There are so many homeless animals in this world and we try to make as much of a difference as we can by giving our time and sacrifice for these innocent lives that didn't ask to live this way!
We have been caring for a feral cat colony for 13 years now. We have successfully used TNR programs to have the cats fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped and released back into their natural environment. The ear tipping allows us to monitor who is fixed and who isn't. Our job as their care takers are to feed, water, and if we see a sick or injured cat we do our best to trap them and get them the care they need.
Recently in one part of the colony there is an abandoned house where many of these cats live. About 4 months ago someone set fire to the big shed in the yard of this abandoned house and I was told yesterday by a nice elderly lady who also cares for the cats that 2 of the cats were burned and lost in the fire. This was so heart breaking to me! You try and do all you can out of the kindness in your heart but it never seems like it is enough. Then terrible people come in and do such evil destructive things and the result is loss of life and loss of a safe place where they slept and hid from danger!
I never ask for help if I don't need it and even then it is hard for me but being prideful won't help these homeless cats eat any better or get the care they need if I don't reach out my hand for help. We have a great relationship with our vets here in the Reno/Sparks area, if you would like to call them and verify what we do is legit please ask Dr. Crumley, Gail at the front desk, Kina or Alisha (we use Baring Vet Hospital) Sparks, Nevada they can tell you the thousands upon thousands we charge to help save these animals and how many we have brought in for care over the years!
Unfortunately we are also on a first name basis with the owners of Beloved Friends Pet Crematory Steve & Elaine but that is because I have respect for life and believe they deserve the same love in their passing. We have lost more animals than anyone should ever lose, but I am with them until their last breath so they know they are not alone. We don't allow suffering and we do all we can to save each and everyone. This was a very large colony when we found them, there were well over 200 cats! To date our Community Cats keeps track of how many we have fixed and at last check I believe we were at about 300 cats and kittens! This is where TNR programs help to stop the massive litters each female can have a year.
We know not everyone would do this or understands why we do it but we can't turn our backs on animals that are in desperate need and would otherwise die without our help and care! Many of them live in God awful conditions but they certainly don't deserve to be hurt, killed, poisoned, or starve to death just because one terrible person allowed them to get out of control because she was a hoarder of animals, they suffer at the ignorance of people like this. I do my best everyday to do all I can to make sure they are safe, fed, watered and have warm places to sleep and hide from predators. Not all make it we lose some every season from sickness & predators but all we can do is our very best to protect them. I lose sleep over them at night sometimes because I try to think if there is anything more I can do to make life safer/better for them.!
If I was famous we wouldn't have a problem receiving donations but I am not famous I am just a woman who has a soft heart when it comes to animals and I can't do it alone! Please Help!
