FIRE CAT UPDATE
Look who is playing! Phoenix is feeling much better! His paws have healed and the scabs are coming off slowly. He has become quite the talker and is trying hard to make friends with the resident cats. Soon he will be well enough to be neutered and then adopted!

Phoenix rising from the ashes....
Like the mythical bird he was named after, Phoenix is proving he too can overcome. He is a fighter, yet not once has he tried to bite or scratch those helping him despite the pain. He loves to be loved and purrs and purrs when petted. He will always bare the scars of what happened to him on the outside but his heart and spirit remain unscathed.

There are two more angels
Blaise is one of our fire kitties who was pregnant when we rescued her. She has been fighting smoke inhalation, burns, and infection on top of carrying babies. Today it proved too much for her battered body and she went into premature labor. Her tiny babies were born alive but died just a few short hours later. She pulled them close and tried the best she could to care for them but they were just too underdeveloped to survive. We will grieve along with Blaise for her babies. Run free little ones...

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for the fire kitties. Here's a little update for those of you following:
We've been able to move a few of the kittens/cats and a pregnant momma to other foster homes as they are no longer in need of major meds and observation.
Momma and 4 orange kittens will be moving new a new foster soon and the kittens are almost ready to be weaned.
...Phoenix (our worst one) spiked a fever today and is currently being hospitalized as he needs a stronger antibiotic and will need his paws soaked from infection.
Everyone else is still being treated for burns on their paws and irritation in their eyes, but are improving and moving in the right direction. Please say a little prayer for Phoenix tonight-he could use some of your love vibes!

And sometimes the abuse is real...
About to start my day, when I got the call. Someone spotted 4 or 5 cats that were dumped on Country School Rd in West Dundee. 1 already dead and 1 very injured. We rushed out to find them, it wasn't hard, as a small group of neighbors had gathered. They helped get the cats to the car and wrapped them in towels to warm them. But it was not just 4, it was 14 living and 1 deceased! We worked quickly to get the tiny kittens and cats out of the rain and rushed them all to the vet. All appeared grey at first however on closer inspection, they were covered in soot and many were burned. The worst has melted plastic all over his body. The pain he must be in is unimaginable Then began the task of washing all 14 to rid them of the soot that could continue to harm them, treat the burns, clean the ears, and give them food before settling them into their cages. Someone was witnessed driving away from the scene and the green bag they had the cats was found there too. If anyone knows where they came from or anything about a recent fire, please contact the rescue. They are all expected to make it and at least 3 are pregnant.
WOODSTOCK UDATE!
When we received the call at 7PM on April 20th, that a 5 week old puppy had been thrown on the side of the road in a pillow case and needed help, we immediately sent a volunteer to pick up the puppy.
Police were called and reports were filed for animal abuse. Although it was dark and raining, several HWMAR volunteers went to the rural area and searched for other abandoned puppies.
Media got hold of the story and went viral on the news and internet. We had an outpouring of offers of help and support and we set up a Go Fund Me page to help with the medical needs for Woodstock.
Today we were notified by the Police that the story of the pillow case was a hoax. Charges have been filed and a court date has been set.
We would like to once again thank the Woodstock Police Deptartment and the McHenry County Animal Control for a job well done! We were just as suprised as everyone else to discover the truth today behind the 'Pillowcase Puppy' case. It was quite an unexpected ending! We are also happy that Woodstock did not have to suffer the trauma of being abandoned like that and that all the puppies will now be able to find good homes when old enough. The puppies were voluntarily given (relinquished) to animal control by the owners and then signed over to us to be placed with our 3 lactating mother dogs. Sadly, although the abuse in this case was falsified, there many others that do suffer similar or worse fates . We would also like to thank all the HWMAR supporters who donated money and puppy supplies to help us care for them. As always, 100% of our donations go to the care of our animals.
The dogs are doing well and are being fostered by volunteers at the Hoof, Woof and Meow Animal Rescue at 129 E. Higgins Road in Gilberts, IL 60136. The rescue group is accepting applications for his adoption now. Please visit our website at www.hoofwoofmeow.org
Hoof Woof & Meow rescues animals include those that come from high kill shelters, abuse situations, abandoned and forgotten circumstances. Our medical costs include treating for Parvo, Heartworms, broken bones, burns, skin problems. Many of our dogs are pregnant when we receive them.
