Positive Thoughts & Things for Sam

Donation protected
For those of you who don't know Sam, you would love her. Sam is a bright young woman with a fantastic future ahead of her. In July, she graduated from Bangor University with a BA in Law. She was a talented athlete, being heavily involved in the Bangor Uni Judo club and was ranked 11th in the UK in her category. She earned her 2nd Dan in the last year and was the first female to win Sportswoman of the year 2x at Bangor.  She is a loved member of the Bangor Womens Rugby Team and has been nominated 'Forward of the Match' on multiple occasions. Not only is she talented, but she is also a caring person, using her holidays to work in a care home. To us, she is the best tea drinking buddy you could wish for.

Our best friend Sam Hemming was involved in a major car crash on Wednesday 20th July. She was a passenger in the car when it flipped over the central reservation on the M6 motorway. Sam was made unconscious when her head hit the central reservation, so, fortunately, was unaware of her horrific injuries.
Sam was anesthetics at the scene and taken by air ambulance to a local hospital. She had 6 hours of life-saving surgery. Since then Sam has had three other surgeries to give her a tracheotomy, to help with her breathing, metal plates to hold in place the three open fractures on her arms and to put skin grafts on her arms. So far, nothing has been done for the 4 bones she has broken in her neck.
Sam was in a coma for 19 days and thankfully today she came out of a coma, but the fight is not yet over for Sam. Her brain is not yet engaged, so she has no awareness or responsiveness to anything yet. Doctors have warned it may take her up to two years to come round. She is likey to have underlying neurological issues and will need intensive physiotherapy when she is able.
Her family want to move Sam home as soon as she is able to but know she will need a lot of specialist care and equipment which is a huge financial burden for any family. This money will go directly to Sam and her family to put towards any equipment or care Sam may require.

Whenever any of Sam's friends are ill she was always the one to bring you a tub of ice cream, hold your hand for a blood test or bring you a colouring book to keep you busy when you have a sniffle. There's not a whole lot we can do for Sam right now as she is in the care of brilliant Doctors and Nurses with one on one, round the clock care. But we can have something there to help Sam when she will need it the most.

For her family and friends, it would mean the world (and then some!) to give Sam the best chance possible.

Thank you all.
