Superhero Wheelchair Van For Liam

Donation protected
My little superhero....my son Liam. He is diagnosed with Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome and cerebral palsy.

I am trying to raise funds for a wheelchair van. Right now, I have a wheelchair (very heavy) that has to be picked up and I have to slide it on its side in the back of my Honda Pilot. I can't put the wheelchair in or out of the Pilot by myself so I have to wait for someone to help me or carry him. I can't afford large car payments on my own. I am hoping to raise enough money to cover most of the cost.....since I will be making payments on my own including car insurance. Every little bit counts.

Below is a link to a website explaining in detail about Liam's diagnosis.

"Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome is a rare disorder of brain development that causes moderate to severe intellectual disability and problems with movement. This condition, which occurs exclusively in males, disrupts development from before birth. Although affected males have impaired speech and a limited ability to communicate, they seem to enjoy interaction with other people. Most children with Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome have weak muscle tone (hypotonia) and underdevelopment of many muscles (muscle hypoplasia). As they get older, they usually develop joint deformities called contractures, which restrict the movement of certain joints. Abnormal muscle stiffness (spasticity), muscle weakness, and involuntary movements of the arms and legs also limit mobility. As a result, many people with Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome are unable to walk independently and become wheelchair-bound by adulthood."

Liam's story:
He was born on July 27, 2011. He seemed healthy, but had issues with latching onto a bottle.....that was my first time noticing something was not right. Around 6 months we noticed his feeding issues, couldn't hold his neck up and was not meeting his milestones. I fought to get therapy right away through Early Intervention. He received OT, PT, and Speech until he was in Pre-K. Liam attended Blythedale Children's Hospital for daycare and Pre-K. He was very sick from 6 months on until we moved to Florida Jan 2015.

Before moving to Florida he was diagnosed as failure to thrive. He couldn't keep anything down....not even water. He was lethargic and couldn't keep his head up. In June 2014 he had emergency surgery to have a mic-key button placed/feeding tube in his stomach. It was very overwhelming. I learned very fast. Liam struggled with keeping his food down still and it didn't help that he was constantly sick and always in the hospital with viruses and respiratory issues. So vomiting increased.

My family and I moved close to my family in Boca Raton Florida. Doctors agreed with me this was the best place to be with someone that has respiratory issues. He had some respiratory issues here, but very little. He is able to enjoy being outside all the time. He loves his school, the therapy is amazing at the school.

In meeting other parents, researching things for Liam to be active and help him physically.....I found out about hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is physical therapy while riding a horse to strengthen his core, neck and fine motor skills. He was doing that for almost a year and half. Unfortunately, the owner moved the horse farther away and the sessions ended.

We have a golden retriever named Faith which is Liam's best friend. I am blessed to meet Rocco from Rocco's Tacos who connected me with Bob Anderson who trains K-9's for FBI and the police department such as Boca Police and FAU police. Bob, some of the FAU police K-9 Unit and Boca Police K-9 Unit will be helping to train our furry girl Faith to be a service dog for Liam. I am so excited to be working with Bob and the amazing police departments. Truly Blessed!

I will try to update this page, but I will be updating Liam's Facebook page too.
