Get Cat a Foldable Power Wheelchair

Donation protected
Hello,  my name is Cat and I'm a PhD student, writer, editor and designer living in London. I've decided to reach out to you wonderful people to help me raise money to get a foldable power wheelchair like this one.

Why I need this

There are a number of reasons why a foldable chair would make my life easier:

As much as I love my Quickie Salsa to get me around day-to-day, at 200lbs it's not easily transportable. This means if i need to travel anywhere at all by car (like going to visit my family in the countryside) I currently need to use my manual wheelchair. I'm finding this increasingly difficult to do as I don't have the muscle function to self-propel the chair, even on flat surfaces. It also means that when I do visit family/friends, I'm not really able to go out much. The chair would also make it possible for me to visit my family and travel independently, rather than having to be picked up from my home.

A foldable power chair will also make it easier (and safer) for me to travel around, especially at night, as I will be able to use taxis instead of relying on public transport.

I'll also be able to visit friends whose homes are less accessible, as the foldable chair is lightweight and can be carried up stairs.

Having this chair will also help me when I want to go on holiday or travel, especially by airplane, as it is lightweight and more portable than a standard powerchair, as well as less vulnerable to damage in transit (an all too common occurence for wheelchair users)

And finally, it will allow me to glide effortlessly down the aisle as a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding next year.

In short, it will make navigating this often inaccessible world a little easier.

How the money will be used

Any money raised will go towards purchasing the wheelchair, this includes delivery and set up, extended warranty, insurance, breakdown cover and a carry case.

Any additional money raised beyond this will be donated to Whizz-Kidz , a charity providing equipment and support for disabled children and young people across the U.K.

Thank you thank you thank you for reading this, it means so much to me. As a way of showing my gratitude to those who donate, I will be offering rewards such as stickers and enamel pins designed by me (you can check them out here) to say thank you.

Lots of love
