Greetings and salutations! My name is Selene, and I'm writing for both me and my mother, Jennifer, who are currently facing a terrible financial crisis, and we are not sure what to do.
Over the last couple of months, I've become very sick and have lost everything because of my condition. It turns out I've developed an autoimmune related chronic illness called Ulcerative Colitis (Chronic Active Colitis to be specific), which is an incurable branch of IBD, and haven't been able to recover from it so it continues to get worse. I am so weak and underweight - because of the nature of the illness and the medications I now need to take for the rest of my life, I'm steadily losing weight and unable to gain. I can barely work now due to the pain and the hours I'm able to work are getting lower and lower. All of my specialist visits and medicine is costing a lot more money than we have. Despite this, my adjusted gross income is still slightly over what I'm allowed to make to qualify for Medicaid, so I've been switched to regular insurance and am now forced to pay a high monthly premium along with visit and medicine co-pays that we literally cannot afford, yet if I were to cut back my hours enough to qualify for Medicaid, we would then no longer have enough to cover our rent and bills. We have another bill coming at the end of the month for the premium, we literally have nothing left, and cannot pay it.
I have never felt so useless and run down in my life, and my mom is so stressed out because we are backed into a corner, and I cannot do anything because of how sick I've become -it's becoming a terrible circle both emotionally, physically and financially. I hope to be getting a call to begin the process of attaining partial disability this week, but I don't know how much/if it's going to help us or how long it will even take to begin once we jump through all the required hoops, and until then we are running out of time. We are thankful that one of our friends is helping us with food since we haven't been able to afford that either for the last four months or so, but we have no family to go to or other resources to fall back on (we were given SNAP for the first 3 months in our return to Seattle, a whole 16 dollars worth, only to have them cut it off and say we no longer qualified for it and because we're both working, we're not able to receive any financial help whatsoever either), so we are completely on our own.
This is why I'm starting this fund. I never thought I would need something like this, but I don't know what else to do right now. Our bills are towering over us, we're both working as much as we can yet there is no money left for the next set of bills, rent and let alone the medical.
The amount I'm asking for is just to help us get through the next couple of months worth of my Insurance Premium + office/specialist and medication co-pays, and associated fees until we can figure out a way to budget this in. My premium amounts are 101.33 (after the tax credit) + 10 reg doctor visit co-pay (at least one a month now), 30 specialist co-pays, each visit (I'll need at least 2-3 a month now, not counting any possible ER trips again, which carry a 450+ co-pay for the visit alone, not counting any fluids and meds that will be needed once there), 60+ copays in monthly prescription medicines (I'm required to take 2 different prescription meds so far, but this could change depending on how well they end up working), 60+ in other related meds/necessities monthly (various pain relievers and probiotics, specialist diet additions, etc) -so monthly we're now looking to pay almost 300 -350 for various medical things related to this illness, not counting any ER trips and the like. Like I said, we don't have it so any help will be appreciated beyond belief.
