90% of Madagascar's lemurs are threatened with extinction.
To celebrate the 2016 World Lemur Festival in October the Isle of Wight Zoo team are each taking on a personal challenge to prove their love of lemurs.
All money raised will go to the Madagascar Fauna and Flora Group (MFG) to fund their vital conservation programmes in Northeast Madagascar (for more information see www.madagascarfaunaflora). The IOW Zoo is a member of the MFG.
Here are some examples of the challenges pledged so far:
Lemur keeper Gary (who loathes vegetables) is going to eat a lemur diet for a week.
Education and Conservation Manager Tracy is taking part in the Great South Run (10 miles!).
Volunteers Coordinator Jan has given up chocolate for the whole of October.
Photographer and Marketing officer Karen is undertaking a 24 hour digital detox (no phone, laptop or camera).
Presenter Karen is going to do a long distance swim (distance tbc).
Arachnaphobics Charlotte, Lisa and Rhia are going to visit ZSL London Zoo's 'In With The Spiders' spider walk-through exhibit.
Presenter Georgie is going to face her fear of creepy crawlies by allowing cockroaches and giant stick insects to crawl over her.
The World Lemur Festival takes place in the last week of October and we are aiming to raise £1000 during that week.
Can you imagine a world without lemurs?
No, neither can we. That's why we are willing to leave our comfort zones #fortheloveoflemurs.
Thank you, on behalf of Madagascar's lemurs, for your support.
