Grayson & Olivia's Japan Grand Prix

Not many people get to live their sports dreams.
Local Sweaburg native, Grayson Lochhead, has been figure skating since he was 7 years old, and dreaming of competing at a high level for nearly that long.
While Grayson continues to be a proud member of the Woodstock Skating Club for many year, he trains full time at the Kitchener-Waterloo Skate Club.
Grayson moved to Waterloo 2 years ago, Bluevale Collegiate Institute and trained full time in Ice Dance with his partner Olivia Han. They are at the rink at 5:45-9:15am Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Wednesday and Friday from 6:00am - 8:15. They have off ice training after school such as gym work outs, pilates, ballroom dancing and ballet. He usually comes home on Wednesday nights and on weekeneds. This schedule is from September to the end of June with no more than a week off between Christmas, exam breaks and March break.
During the summer months there is a bit of a reprieve. Grayson is able to call Sweaburg his full time home.
They don't start until 7:00 am on ice and off ice training to follow.
It is physically and mentally challenging for Grayson as well as emotionally for the whole family.
Finiancial considerations are significant. Travel, competitions, costumes, ice time, lessons and boarding all add up very quickly. Now that Grayson is taking his skating in a much more competitive direction, we have easily spent $50,000.00 over the past 3 years.
He and Olivia started skating together in July of 2014 and have achieved all Gold and Silver standings with their most recent and successful victory being 2016 Canadians Novice Ice Dance champions. They will now move up to Junior and continue their climb.
Grayson and Olivia have been selected to represent Canada in their first International assignment skating at the Junior Grand Prix in Yokohama, Japan from September 8-11.
