Ken's Cancer Treatment Fund

My name is Pam Williams, and I am Ken Hanson’s mother.  Ken is 37, living in eastern Pennsylvania (nearly 900 miles from me) with his life-partner Devie.

More than a month ago, Ken underwent emergency surgery for a bile-duct blockage, and it was determined there was a large mass blocking that duct.  The surgery was successful, a stent was placed, Ken’s jaundice resolved, and the mass was determined to be benign.  But in the coming weeks, masses in his lungs were discovered, blood work was done, masses closer to the skin were determined and biopsied, and a new diagnosis was issued:  Stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer that had involved his lungs and bones as well.  Advanced stage pancreatic cancer that has metastasized is an insidious disease.

In answer to hundreds or maybe thousands of prayers, thoughts, and healing light, this week there was a change in diagnosis, and an infusion of hope:  Lung cancer.  It’s still Stage 4, it’s still metastatic.  But it’s not a death sentence.  His oncologist believes he is young, strong, and a fighter, and that with treatment he can beat this.  Ken will begin chemotherapy on Tuesday, Oct. 11th.  He knows that he will be fighting the battle of a lifetime – but he’s determined to recover from this, and lead a long, healthy and most of all happy life.  And I know that he will live to see his 38th birthday, on November 2nd.  My mother-heart is filled with gratitude and hope.

Ken was uninsured, has been unable to work since the first emergency surgery, and his treatment and recovery will take months – or longer.  I have been fortunate to be able to help him (and Devie) in small ways, but I have a fixed income, and my ability to help is minuscule compared to their need.  Devie is mother to two young children, and has been working two jobs to keep the family’s head above water.  She is tiring.  She’s often unable to be with him for appointments, and she is his strength right now.  I worry for her health and emotional well-being as much as I worry about my son.

Please consider my plea for help in meeting medical and living expenses by donating as you are able.  The need is immediate, and all donations are gratefully and greatly appreciated.  Your donations will keep Devie by his side, supporting him with her strength, and will ease his worries about the mounting medical debt as he wages this long and painful battle.  Please keep Ken, his family, and me in your thoughts and prayers as well.  I am witness to the miracles that happen in answer to prayerful supplication.

God bless each of you, and thank you from the bottom of a grateful mother’s heart.
